And I did rewatch the phone call scenes in ep 1 and ep 4 from both perspectives. As I suspected JHs dialogue in Korean is WORD for WORD the exact same. Its the translation that adds in gendered language. You can watch both scenes without looking at the subs and pause ep 1 while they add in the friends speech and you'll hear that it is the EXACT same. Though I imagine your response to this will be along the lines of how laughable I am again.

Im not "choosing to believe JH" Im understanding that the show will show us misperceptions but wont show us things that never happened at all. Events are likely to be some mix of both of their memories and what I suspect happened is the translation has added gendered pronouns because English uses them and different peoplw translate each episode where the actual Korean overheard likely didnt Im out of the house rn but will listen again ti both scenes when i get home. Why would he have had a conversation with that girl on screen if he's lying? There is no need for the show to show us things that have already been described if theyre not events that remotely happened.

And the flashbacks AREN'T unbiased. Theyre biased as hell. Including MJs. We are seeing two perspectives of the same events. That's the point of the show, I fear.

To talk evidence. You yourself have said that JH was cold to MJ after their most recent encounter but here are events I would say dont support your claim.

IN PRIVATE
JH makes them breakfast
JH initiates physical affection with the hair thing and is called cringe
JH askes MJ not to leave and finds clothes in his apartment that actually fit MJ even though his own suit is oversized

IN PUBLIC
JH tries to initiate physical contact again by holding MJs hand. MJ rebuffs it.
JH looks at MJ to check in with him.
JH is happy when MJ initiates physical touch before they enter.
JH sits with MJ even though he was essentially best man / could have found a seat with his friends. MJ is even surprised he was sat next to him when he has a role in the wedding.
JH directs a part of his wedding speech directly to MJ and says he is going to go with his heart.
JH is watching him almost the entire time during the photos.
JH calls him up to his friends and says he came with MJ.
JH looks to get confirmation on what they are - MJ leaves
JH claims he is seeing somebody so his friends know hes taken.
JHs best friend asks if hes declared his love. ie. he knows about MJ.
JH introduces MJ to his dad in an otherwise emotional moment where it would be more than understandable if he didnt involve other people
JH asks MJ if he is really okay to go with his friends alone. MJ says it is.

And youve read all that as standoffish.

But seeing as from what i can tell every accusation you're making is likely a confession I'll leave it here as you're locked in of your opinion of me and events in the show.

Oh I dont mean the pain vs pain because both of them are haunted by the shadows of this but more the actual action of the thing. There is zero denying that the choices made hurt MJ enormously as it painted all his future relationships and his perception of self.

But if you lay out what happened. MJ *thought* the guy he was seeing didnt like him and was toying with him so he (from his perspective VERY reasonably) left.

JH *thought* he'd finally confirmed that the guy he liked liked him back and slept with him for the first time but the guy disappeared the morning after while he was out and fully ghosted him. No explanation. No conversation. No message left behind.

I pointed out a cultural thing and your response was practically nuh-uh instead of a counterpoint. You're seeing me defending JHs side because you're so staunchly on MJs and locked into his perspective but I'm pointing out that we predominantly see things through MJs eyes and we miss a lot of detail from JHs. That is literally baked into the show.

In the brief flashes we see of JHs perspective we dont see this perfect hyperconfident person that MJ sees when he looks at him. We just don't.

I dont like either character more than the other. But if I had a bias I'd probably "like" MJ more because I relate to his anxiety and lack of self esteem. I just actually see both perspectives. If what had happened to JH happened to MJ I think you'd see just how harsh it was too.

Exactly. And bcause MJ is our protagonist we've barely seen what must have been a horrific experience from JHs side that probably guides his decisionmaking. He was finally intimate with a guy he really really liked for the first time and that same morning he disappeared and ghosted him. MJ from an objective perspective did worse to JH than the other way round. They both liked the other. They were both crazy nervous and both ended up hurt but we're expecting one person to somehow overcome that fear and hurt to ensure theyre doing and saying the perfect thing when they just want to make sure the other person is okay. He checks in with MJ at like every point but is also allowed to have a good time at his best friend's wedding.

Ill admit i havent read everything you've said but I think you've not considered one thing about the wedding photo. Culturally there is a grooms side and a brides side. MJ is there as the bride's collegue and JH is there as essentially the Korean equivalent of the best man. They were never going to stand together in the wedding photos because of this.

Literally. Like having a crush isnt a problem. Even not wanting to be friends isnt a problem but be HONEST with it and not make someone thing theyve done something wrong. One of my pet peeves is when characters try to say "it isn't your fault" to someone who's fault it absolutely was. At every single step of her self reflection i was like... yup. That's just factually accurate. Like fair enough on day one she didn't say anything as she was scared but had she given into conscience for even ONE day of like 13 years of her life Yu Jin would still be alive. As soon as that secret was out there was no reason for Myung Ji to kill Yu Jin because Se Young wouldn't ever be in line for the company. And it's such a cowardly thing to do to not even try and rectify the wrongs she did before exiting stage left pursued by ocean. I wanna give her grace because she's in a dark place but let's face it every single thing Se Young has ever done from childhood to that ocean scene was born of selfishness.

Hana even went to see her body. if anyone would recognise Duna it would be her, surely? We're gonna have to have some convoluted stuff to do with her body and how she faked her death in order for her to come back and probably double amnesia for her to have successfully kept away from Eun Chong even as her mom ripped her away from Hana. But with that one camp counsellor line I'm now more willing to believe we will see the return of Duna.

They don't need to tell them everything though. They should tell them about the bloody mental institution plan she concocted. That should be enough to make them rightfully wary of the Chairwoman. But this family cant share anything but banter with each other, apparently.
