Ratings do not decide whether the drama was a hit or not. Popularity with the general public does. There are so many OTT that are replacing cable TV. King the Land isn't even in the top 20 highest rated cable dramas. For example take Lovely Runner which had around 6% TV ratings but was a smash hit sensation in Korea as well as internationally. I do like King the Land but I don't get why you are getting upset by the fact that The Red Sleeve did better.

Xiyang and Xia Jingyan were the scene stealers for the last arc of the drama. Just too fricking good. I would watch a whole drama based on just them.

Her brother is mortal enemies with him but she likes him because he's good looking. Wow. Side characters can be good too but she's just too naive. For example in Are You the One, a side character marries the second ML who is also in love with the FL, but she's wise and kind so she makes it work and viewers rooted for her. There was also another side character in Blossom who married a guy claiming she could change him through the power of love, but it ended up ruining her. So yes it depends.
