6/10 romcom level because it's plot heavy and the characters are mature and quick to resolve misunderstandings. More melodrama than romcom in my opinion. It's quite lovely.
The editing of this drama is not good. The changes in the moods seem so abrupt. One moment they're angry and in the next they are smiley. I can't understand what they are talking about most of the time. The FL seems kind in one scene and bratty in the next. The ML is tough in one moment and a doormat in another. WTF is going on. Acting is good though.

Chasing Jade/Zhu Yu is similar in terms of a female general and I really liked it! It also has a drama adaptation titled Zhu Yu with Tian Xiwei and Zhang Linghe. There's also a novel with the name A Mistaken Marriage Match: A Generation of Military Counselor, which has a general couple and was fun to read as well.
10/10. Spectacular. Life-changing! I pray all my favourite novels get this standard of adaptations. The actors did an excellent job but I say the real props for this drama go to the screenwriter and producer. To show all the war strategies, harem intrigue and controlled mind-games in such clear-cut yet artistic way deserves praise and more praise. If I could show you the scenes that play across my mind as I read such stories, they would be just like Prisoner of Beauty. I am beyond impressed.
From today onwards I will pray everyday that all my favorite historical novels get adaptations of this standard! I'm just blown away by how freaking good the direction and writing is. Not to mention the acting 10/10!

Girl what? No one's mad that he rejected her. Everyone will be annoyed if Dowon enthusiasts get mad at Yiyoung for being friendly with another guy who asked her out. What do you mean a test of Yiyoung's feelings too? What real love or infatuation? She clearly confessed multiple times and he said he doesn't want it. Why should she have to put extra effort to prove she really likes him? She wouldn't be easy or frivolous even if she agrees to date the other guy immediately. Rejecting a kdrama FL lol. He didn't do it once or twice so you can excuse it by saying he was confused or hesitant. He didn't express interest in her and shot down her attempts at chasing him. Being jealous now and looking sad from a distance isn't going to get him the girl. This level of ML dick-riding is insane.
So why did Shin PD say this was his favorite episode? Could it be because Yiyoung's real endgame finally showed up?! We know it wouldn't be his first stint at changing MLs at the last moment! I like both guys so I'll be happy with whatever result.

Lol I guess it's not your cup of tea. The other books by this author are very exciting and well written. Revenge driven and political. This one is quite tame compared to them and that's also why so many people love it. Imagine your favourite thriller writer writing a cliche romcom. It's fun even though the plot isn't anything special. Just the details of the setting and characters make it enjoyable.
