The romance is there but not the focus. The plot mirrors alot of older and classic Wuxias. In my opinion the last Wuxia that was like this is the 2019 Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre.

That is a shame but no big deal for me. I will be happy and proud to say we all got to witness a great underrated show! These types of wuxias is like a dying breed only a few come out in years. It's slowly being replaced with the fluffy wuxias with "I'm a perfect prince" type characters.

Me too. You can expect that they're roles will be pretty much the same. Liang Jie has looks (personally my favorite Cdrama actress) and talent. She delivers while people don't whip up a frenzy or hype her up simply because she's in a show. I see that alot with Kdramas and Cdramas. If an actor is well known in that sphere regardless of the story they'll praise it regardless. Liang Jie doesn't have that which is something I really appreciate. Like u said it makes watching her shows so much more worth it. Like with Side Story of Fox Volant I'm so invested in her character.

@Firefly88 FINALLY!! Someone has said it. This drama by no means is not one fluffy wuxia's with a cold, "I'm perfect in every way", handsome prince and a pretty princess. If you want to feel good and witness steaming kisses and love confession those types of wuxia shows are perfect in producing that kind of feeling. But not the other kind of wuxia like this show is.
On the other hand, shows like this in the CDrama world that are excellent, usually low budgeted , and has a very dark plot. They go under the radar almost 99% of the time even with a good cast. Also by dark what I mean its not comedy or romance focused plot line.
This is why I love this show so much even though its not done yet. It brings back memories of past wuxias from the late 1990s to mid 2010s. Some shows that come to mind would be Swordsman, Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre (old version and 2019 version), Demi Gods and Semi Devils, Nirvana in Fire, and Flying Swords of Dragon Inn (i think thats how it's spelled). Those are just a few listing that come to mind there's obviously more.
