I had strong feelings about certain parts and characters but I waited for over a month to come post a comment and now I cannot remember WTF I wanted to gripe about. π€ππ I for sure know the lead pissed me off several times... Anyway, a great adventure filled, action laden, patriotic, comedic drama.
LOVED this show! Their banter was the best. Cannot wait to see the continuation of this slow burn love story. She was badass without being girl boss, ball busting or emasculating. He was bossy and "dominant" without being demeaning, disrespectful and subjugating. Together, they made a delicious power couple. I need more of this dynamic.
Been away from MDL for a couple months, came to finally log all the shows I've watched during that time (this was one of them), only to find out that the ML has passed away. First show of his to ever watch. I really enjoyed their chemistry. How tragic. I hope he has found the peace he probably desperately couldn't while "here".
"Best sibling love I've seen in a long time."UhnnnnnnnBut yes, this drama has all the feels. It sinks its hooks…
haha Well, one side DID develop "un-sibling like" feelings but the line was never crossed and the devotion and loyalty to each other remained true and steadfast.
I love this and then I don't. Nothing wrong with the storyline but the non stop monologue took me out of it sometimes. I got sleepyyyy. It's akin to a good stew/soup with almost all the right ingredients but maybe you have no garlic/onion so it's tasty but lacking some needed flavor. haha I dunno.... 2 episodes left. Let's see how they wrap it up.
I had dropped this after about 5 few episodes because I decided I wanted to read the book first. After constant procrastinating on reading it, I went ahead and just picked the drama back up and boy am I glad I did. Great show, stellar acting, production, OST. I loved EVERYTHING about it.
Xiyan Cang Xuan had my entire heart throughout this drama. (The last time I loved a character this much was in The Double. Duke Su is my pooh bear!!! πππ₯°) I don't know what it was but there was something about the way he, Cang Xuan spoke (his enunciation gave everything he said gravitas), the feelings emoted through his gaze alone, his tilted smile. I FELT his love on an almost visceral level, and he did NOT fuck around when it came to his Xiao Yao. I LOVED LOVED LOVED his love for her and their relationship was the most interesting thing in this whole spectacle. Best sibling love I've seen in a long time. Both their adult and child characters were incredible together.
Wasn't quite feeling Tushan Jing. Throw ALL the rotten eggs and tomatoes at me, I just... sigghhhh
The yearning in this show was next level. The repressed wanting hurt my heart. Whhyyyyyy?!!?!
The all around vinegar in episode 20 (?) was enough to drown the whole of Xiyan. The tension! π€£
So many shows are just leaving me meh. (Maybe its me. Over-consumption and over saturation? Who knows?) NOT this one. I was engrossed, invested and most of all I FELT something. THANK YOU to all involved in making this drama.
I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO RATE THIS!!!!! Some of it was 10/10 and some was 7/10. I loved the exaggerated action, the camaraderie was fun but sometimes something felt off for me. It was an enjoyable binge for sure though. Count this as a comment that will confuse you even more if you are on the fence about watching this. Sorry!!!
A great example of how you can have a mature couple without sex scenes (I don't mind those either, just pointing out that little detail) yet keep it romantic without being an "Oh, I'm a deer in the headlights girl when I get kissed" kinda show. I HATE when they make the women these frozen, shocked, cold as fish wall of flesh around men they supposedly have deep feelings for. Sure you might be awkward if it's your first relationship, but enough with the petrified, frozen stares. Thank youuuu!
This was cute, got a wee bit draggy near the end but definitely worth the watch. Great acting all around, music was awesome.
He was one of the Suilu officers that assisted them in arresting the gang in Suilu.
Yeah, I remember that detail but... I could have sworn there was a scene with him in the hospital. I might be making all this up to fit the narrative. lol The brain is a funny thing. Anyway, they're cute so that's all that matters, right? haha
Haha wait. Where did Qiao Han come from? I donβt remember him from any earlier episode and suddenly heβs so…
This is HILARIOUS to me because i had the SAME exact question. I recall there being a somewhat tender moment between them earlier but for the life of me I cannot remember during what event, timeline, NOTHING. it's bizarre. I even re-watched a few minutes of some episodes to find it, then gave up. I think he was one of the cops in the south, or he's the one who picked her up after the car crash and took her to the hospital??? Ugghhh my brain is fried. Too many shows/characters. haha Gonna lurk here to see if someone jolts our memories.
I held out watching the last three episodes so that I could make it last longer because this kind of dramatic…
Yeah, the offerings are many but the good pickings are slim these days. I haven't tried Perfect Match but I will give it a go thanks to your suggestion. I might just have to watch some older shows that have glowing reviews instead of trying to keep up with the newly released stuff. Thanks for the recommendation! Best of luck on your quest!
I generally refrain from commenting on ratings, we all have what we love and hate. As far as consensus on shows is concerned, I've found myself on multiple occasions going against the grain, so I take it all in stride. BUT, I am surfing MDL for ideas on what to watch next, see a BL list, click on it to see this show has an 8.1 score? In what mind altering, bad taste having, what in the HELL are you DOING with your 10/10s universe is this show rated an 8. HOW?!?!?!?!
Yes, yes I know. Not everything is for everyone. I get that. And yet... <<<>>>

It truly is a gem. Now it's over, I am here scrambling trying to figure out what to watch next. I don't necessarily need a repeat of GOTD but it has to be exciting, there has to be a great story-line, a wonderful ensemble cast and it HAS to be FUN! Despite some darkish themes, GOTD still managed to not be heavy. I keep starting stuff and am just not able to get past the first few episodes.
An excellent watch. A no nonsense, no frills crime drama. It demonstrated how some people are just inexplicable, evil monsters. In this crime tale, there is no fancy psychology to the bad behaviour, no winding, ridiculous backstory, just a concise, matter of fact display of how wicked and callous some people are. Brutal in some scenes, suspense filled in others and somewhere in all the darkness there are glimpses of light and most importantly, love: between a man and his wife, a father and his young son, a pushy mother and her headstrong daughter lost in their battle of wills, the criminals and those they hold dear despite their hardened exteriors and morally bankrupt hearts/souls.
This was a rich experience for me and I went through so many emotions while watching this. A perfect blend of family dynamics (blood related and found) violence, drama, painstaking crime solving all wrapped up in a phenomenal bow. Just like so many characters in the show had to wait, for justice, for getting their just desserts/comeuppance, for their working spouses to come home, the viewer needs patience. It is not a high adrenaline, pulse pounding sort of crime show. It takes its time, it tests the viewer the same way the criminals test and taunt the police over the course of the drama's run. But the payoff for everyone is worth all the effort and time spent. I have been dropping shows left and right but this one hit me right where I needed it to.
I really want to see more of this type of show. Hopefully the gods of drama hear me and answer my plea. Thank you to all involved in this little gem. MORE PLEASE!!!!
Got done with this almost two weeks ago but been away from MDL so it's hard to write from a fresh perspective.
I enjoyed this drama. Mature characters, no love drama really (sometimes I want overwrought, other times I enjoy a smooth/ish ride). Their chemistry leapt off the screen, it was beautiful! It wasn't a perfect show by any means, some parts lacked cohesion in some places but I mostly rate by how immersed I am in a show more so than technical aspects so I gave it a 9/10. A tighter script would have made this perfect. Still, it stands as a favorite and worth every minute spent watching it.
I hate that I waited so long to write this 'cause I cannot give a more detailed review. Sighhhh
