Taut, tense, stellar acting, evenly paced, well directed with almost no plot holes. Kept my blood boiling even in the last episode. Every villain stayed one till the end. They were remorseless from the get go and stayed true to character which I greatly appreciated because it kept in line with the plot and their past behaviour. People can change but we have to accept the hard truth that some humans are simply irredeemable and without conscience.
I immensely enjoyed this show and was NEVER bored. Frustrated AS HELL but never bored.
It wasn't perfect, there were a few timeline flaws for me (on the night of the crime) but I am giving it a 10/10 for the suspense, the emotions it stirred in me (mostly ANGER lol) the superb performances from almost every single person who graced the screen and just how well told the story was. Bravo to all involved in this show.
In a year of disappointing, nose diving, lost potential kdramas this one is definitely the dark horse and I hope it gains more popularity.
Edit: I binged this, watching two/three episodes a day till the finale day therefore the ride of emotions and tension was a nonstop roller-coaster. I think that is the difference for others who might not have enjoyed it as much. Having to wait every week would definitely kill the momentum.
This show is outstanding!!! FINALLY a kdrama that has kept the momentum from start to almost finish (I am on episode 12). Albeit, it's been a supremely frustrating watch, seeing how humans are so beyond DESPICABLE and just TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE but that has only made the show better, because their behaviour amplifies what a horrible thing they did and the uphill battle for justice.
It gets worse and worse (the people and their heinous acts not the show). Just when I think they can't stoop lower, the say "Hold my shovel". Smh. AWFUL people; inhumane, selfish ASSHOLES.
Only place I found it, no legal sites. Subs are already embedded but if you select subtitles in the menu at the bottom right you get even better subs. Unfortunately both sets appear together but its not tooo bad.
There are subtitles in the video already but it you select subtitles in the menu (bottom right) you get even better ones. Its kind of a pain cause they overlap each other.

lol, this is funny. I noticed the running too. Didn't he take a taxi when he picked him up from the restaurant,…
You mean when he was intoxicated? I believe so. Otherwise generally, unless alcohol is involved, these JBLs have the characters ALWAYS running across town or on sidewalks . :)
JBL does it again with the dark and heavy themes. I absolutely loved this show. It broke my heart with its gritty, harrowing story and put it back together again without melodrama and violins/fanfare. Man, it is a sad reality, the life some people in this world are experiencing.
Some might not like it because of the horrific things depicted but it is someone's story and no matter how ugly or uncomfortable it gets, they deserve for it to be told. Well done to the entire cast an crew for making this realistic and visceral without being gratuitous or feeling exploitative. It's hard to get it right. I can always count on Japan to take their movies/shows where no one else dares to tread or if they do, it's with caution. More of this PLEASE everyone else. (Sugar IS sweet but too much of it leads to tooth rot ;) haha a lil humor to lighten the mood)
I haven't watched this yet, but your comment had me laughing out loud at 12 am! :) Thanks ;) I will skip this for when I am hungry for a "nonsense" snack.
Total palate cleanser/time passer while watching some dark/more serious shows. Toki is the cutest BL Yankee everrrrr haha Short, light. funny, cute, with that Japanese flavor I know and love. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.
Currently on episode 6, halfway done. Very flawed show but I am hanging in there 'cause it's refreshing to see an action Thai BL and some moments are genuinely interesting/funny. Yai is by far my favorite character with Gap Jakarin Puribhat's scenes providing relief from some otherwise questionable acting. He embodies his character with ease and his acting talent is obvious. Hope to see him in a lead role.
I am familiar with some Thai culture -not much- so I was fascinated by the Naga myth in relation to Thailand. Enough to read up on it. I love learning new things even in the midst of sexy abs and blurred out butts ;) , so THAT is a bonus.
I can't imagine a police force would have rookies straight out of the academy investigating such a serious crime, BUT the eye candy is making up for the weak script, exaggerated acting, etc.. Hopefully I can hang in there till the end because life is short and there is only SO much cute faces will make me do.
The beginning tiptoed toward and bordered on greatness. Now halfway through, I have a feeling it might devolve into the kdrama thriller manhole of too many subplots, lessened action/suspense all leading to a dull, uninspired finish, something that's has been occurring consistently in recent shows. I'm seriously praying I am wrong, because the first three episodes were thrilling.
The whole idea of the show was about vigilante justice/ public murder for hire and we are just on this one street, blah blah blahing... There was ONE brave effort and then, NOTHING.
It's really been hard for the creators to stick the landing this year. Instead of focusing on the main plot and elevating the story, creating new twists and turns, they just add more unnecessary characters that they eventually abandon while forsaking any thrills. It lessens the tension created at the onset of the show. Keep it tight, move the story and maintain momentum. I know, easy to type but c'mon!!!!
Also, goddammit! WEAR YOUR GLOVES!!! Aaaargggghhhhh!!!!
Edit #1: Episode 7 See, this is what I mean. ALL the cops at the hospital instead of out and about looking for you know who. No one is searching for Miss Perky after two days missing? Sloppy writing. It did get more exciting though despite the stupidity.
Edit #2: Completed. Another great show that slipped and fell and bumped its head in the later episodes. Could easily have been a 9/10 but for some severely fumbled parts. Enjoyed it immensely sometimes and horribly disappointed at other times. Leaving it unrated.
Japan. Look, I love you. I love your movies, culture, food etc. etc. etc. I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR BLs. But for the sake of imaginary jdorama economy (cabbies need to make a living) and the well being of my boys/men, can you make BLs where these characters take CABS or even a train instead of breathlessly sprinting across town in their suits and leather dress shoes to meet their loves?? Just ONCE, have them step to the edge of a curb, put an arm out/up and HAIL a cab like everyone else who needs to get somewhere FAST so they can go tell someone "Suki-des , Ai shiteru et al. "?! Please?! PLEASE?! I mean, time is of the essence.
I don't know, it just felt like the time to playfully vent about this. They run ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME haha
Also: what would we do without these scenes of desperation? Sighhhhh
Kdramas depicting sex acts/nudity vs. those that have virtually NONE despite GROWN adults in the story, ratio 1:150.
People on MDL: OMG Korea has gone Hollywood!!! The drama! lol The only scene that was mayyyybe gratuitous was the shaman scene. Every other one served a purpose. And if you pay attention, each one had a different representation of sex.
The two lovers (king and his queen), because that is what adults do to physically express their emotions/attraction. Try it sometime, it's GREAT! ;)
The king and the slaves: it was meant to be off putting and lascivious and awful because THAT is what he wanted the "spies" to see to report to their masters. "Oh, so the king was just being licked and caressed by these servants RIGHT in front of the Queen. She walked in and he just let them keep going. Things must NOT be as rosy between them as we thought. Hmmm. Yay for us. " A political ploy to save his wife.
The scene in the brothel: business as usual, women earning a tough living, and the men that frequent these establishments, just another day in the kingdom as they chase my thieving/cheating ass around town.
The third prince: no, his depravity didn't end with his subjects and the poor townspeople, it extends to the wife who is no longer useful. Everyone is a tool, everyone is dispensable. His sword is a weapon and sex with a sword (a phallic symbol) is just another power game to him. He "pierces her" in two inhumane ways.
The "soldier" princess Yeon whatever, I forget her name haha and her male servant: yes, women with power also have/had sex slaves they mistreat and abuse. Here's a scene depicting how cruel and debauched she is. A glimpse into her ruthless character which also shows her obvious disdain for men.
Yes, after this I will still LOVE and watch "vanilla" shows and not expect/desire a huge uptick in kdramas that are so sexually graphic, but this was a nice, dark addition to the mix. Sex was how you got here in the first place to type out how outraged you are by it being depicted onscreen. :)
Just finished episode two. What a gripping series, right from the get go. Same old court politics but definitely a different brand of kdrama (this is more like their movies). I'm loving it so far. I have my suspicions, I HOPE I'm wrong!!! :( OK, back to the suspense!
There's good looks with little talent, and there's good looks with the acting chops. This young man has the latter. I hope he enjoys a long and prolific career.
Only complaint is that I really wanted it as angsty as the book. I needed Ming to suffer JUSSST a bit more. Oh and also at the start I didn't find Up a great selection to play Ming (again having read the book), he was way more mellow (?) than Yan Ming Xiu. But I slowly warmed up to him. All in all a pretty good show.
I appreciate the fact that their chemistry was really natural and didn't come across as forced. It's an issue I have with Thai dramas, me not believing in the love between the characters. Sometimes the acting is so stilted accompanied by those weird long pauses in dialogue...
Last but not least I really loved the relationship between Joe and his mother. Very comfortable interactions that felt genuine and sincere.
