i really love how the main couple in this series ACT LIKE A COUPLE!! look, i’m not saying that kiss/sex/explicit scenes are needed to tell a romantic story, however, they sure do help. i don’t mean that in a gross way, i’m just saying normal gay couples kiss and touch each other lol. its nice to see li cheng put his arm around teng or see them have a good morning kiss after establishing their relationship. personally, this made the couple feel normal compared to all the other bl couples where showing affection = the seme patting the uke’s head. not only is their physical affection amazing and more real but THEY ALSO TALK TO EACH OTHER!! i know this is a bl trope but i cant stand it when the couple of a series start fighting all because of their lack of communication about what they saw or how they’re feeling. in this series for example, when teng thought li cheng spent the night with mei fang in a hotel the two immediately talked it out and were all good!! personally the only part i’m not really a fan of is li cheng’s “i don’t like men, i like him” expression, however, i can let it slide. li cheng has gone his whole life thinking he’s straight and starting a relationship with one guy doesn’t automatically make him gay. sexuality is in no way that straightforward. i’m a gay guy and my ex before dating me only dated girls and was about str8 as they come. we openly dated and he took no shame in being with a guy, i even met his family. but after breaking up he went back to dating girls and has told me he doesn’t really feel any attraction like that towards other men (we broke up fine and stayed friends btw lol). anyway, what i’m trying to say is just because he started dating a guy doesn’t automatically make him some closeted homo lol (but again i also wasn’t the biggest fan of the way he phrased it). as much as i love the main couple and like every scene with them, the second couple FLOPPED. HATE THE R*PE! also, aside from that, the family just has so many problems. this couple was supposed to add the seriousness element to balance the main couple’s more comedic and fun storyline, but it took a super awful and dark turn. yong jie is just a terrifying character who felt like a serial killer (THE STALKING HELLO). to sum everything up, the main couple is like one of my fav bl couples ever and the side couple is one of the worst. ohh the other thing i wanted to write about was mei fang and the fujoshi element. although i agree yaoi fetishizes gay men, its kind of hypocritical of us viewers to get mad at a character for being into it. all the bl series we’ve watched are never made for gay people lol. i’m not saying it’s fair but the only reason we have such a plethora of bl shows is because asian countries target these gay romances towards women. look bl/yaoi and their fetishizing of gay male relationships can be argued forever, thats not what im trying to do with this post. all i’m saying is i don’t think mei fang should be a hated character because 1) there’d be no plot without her 2) she’s so cute especially when our MC finally get together TT 3) i just don’t think her role was meant to be taken so seriously by viewers. like personally it felt like someone was watching the series with me whenever she and sister wang would fangirl over li cheng and teng lol. anyway for the main couple i 10/10 recommend watching this series, but as many other people already have commented you can just skip the other couples scenes.
i understand a lot of the criticism this series gets but am i the only one who just doesn’t care lol. for some reason i’m just able to enjoy this show and characters even if the writing isn’t always great or the storyline doesn’t have that much of a substantial plot. with other series’ i usually get slightly or very annoyed but with this one i’m kinda just chilling and enjoying the 20 something minute episodes every week

i may be wrong but i also saw someone else comment something similar. apparently they’ve been developing their relationship off screen which makes sense seeing as how they live together. i still don’t think they’ve become a couple but are just more so aware of their feelings towards each other. i was surprised by the kiss too but i guess it could be deemed a more flirty kiss and not a full on couple romancey kiss if that makes sense lol.
