Emperor in novel is an imposter. His real name is Yan Han, brother of then CP Yan Huai. Yan Han rebelled and in the war with CP there was a huge fire and Yan Huai died and Yan Han took his place and became emperor - huge secret.
Consort that was murdered by Prince Ji was actually staged by Emperor because both had been looking into this secret as consort suspect that her husband changed overnight. QinWan's father/family was also killed because he was close to finding out (I think).
Not sure if this theme will make it into show - script writers might change it due to only 12 episodes remaining and we're close to Chapter 294 of 562. Lots to skip

Chapter 293 is where they discover the body that has been skinned. Note that the consort selection which has yet to start in the show (not sure how much they will cover) is supposed to have concluded by this point. So don't be surprised.

CP put her on the list but 2 things, her name was removed plus during selection he was caught with Feng ChenBi alone (this was supposed to be a trap for QinWan). ChaoYu was selected for CP and ChenBi for Prince Cheng as primary consorts

In the novel, even tho' the princes add QinWan to their list of candidates, when it is revealed to the emperor, her name was not on any list, they were guessing either empressdowager or ML had something to do with it.
As for QinWan, she actually requests marriage to YanChi to stop him from leaving for the NW when his father is murdered. There should be funny scenes with EmpressDowager as in ep 25 they already know of their relationship.

I think it'll be close to the book ending based the 24 ep we've seen so far. They have followed the main themes so far just how it's adapted is different.
Take ep 24. CP still gets shot close to the heart with an arrow by guard/general and other prince puts the bait to attract wolves to get rid of the body. It just didn't follow the book timeline, weather, etc.
Princess still tries to kill QinWan, just that horse did not die and I don't know if YanChi will kill the princess favourite horse as payback. Up to the scriptwriters to adapt. Although we know who the primary villan is, so getting rid of him would still be the main objective plus all the pieces that must fall to get there too.
