So when the story begins, this is a big secret which only a handful of people know. I believe FL is also aware. That's why the previous emperor removed Xia Jing Shi from inheriting the throne and also XJS didn't want the throne as he couldn't have offspring.

Exactly. Extra chapter in the novel - so not sure if that'll get adapted. He had been watching her since he got back but never inteferred. By 2026 he was very successful and had prepared a surprise for her as he knew she would be looking for him.

We'll get a better feel for screen adaptation when they release the full cast list. Certainly all arcs associated to missing characters from novel, etc. would be dropped.
