i was feeling this way while watching the series-- didnt know how to describe it but you put it perfectly. i understand…
It definitely feels like he’s doing his best to be supportive in the ways he knows how. No parent is perfect, and he has no way of knowing Kang craves more structure unless he communicates that. I was waiting for him to forget Kang’s birthday or disregard him in another way that shows he isn’t his dad’s priority, but it just never happened.
It makes the scenes where we’re supposed to feel bad for Kang just come across as melodramatic instead.
To be fair, Kinn and Porsche set the bar high. That scene is legendary. But yeah. The sex scenes here seem really…
I’d be fine with the level of spice if there was any plot at all to balance it out. The way it is currently feels like they went ‘well, they’ll eat up anything as long as boys are kissing!’
Little bit disappointed they apparently changed the kiss on the lips to a kiss on the cheek.
It’s not even about needing to see a kiss, it’s the implications of being uncomfortable enough to change it from the source material. It’s a little depressing.
The fact anybody at all is interested in that second couple honestly baffles me. We know about as much about Namning as Ming does, which is truthfully nothing. There is no meat to that pairing.
Or maybe too much meat, considering they won’t stop fucking long enough to have a single notable conversation. 💀
I also agree, it was presented a lot better in the novel. I dont understand why they did not adopt it in the same…
My only guess is that they could be playing it down early on just for the father to say something really disrespectful to Kang in a future scene. They might want the audience to be surprised and really feel that impact.
At least, I hope that’s what they’re doing? Something definitely has to change.
How’s Dunk’s acting? It was so bad for me in Star and Sky that I avoided this like the plague, but I’m open to giving it a chance if he’s at all improved in this.
The one nitpick I do have is this strange dynamic with the father. It is simply not written well so far.
He is too warm for me to empathize where Kang is coming from. He’s curious about how his son is doing in school, and encourages him to do what makes him happy. He listens. He eats dinner with him and makes conversation. He buys him presents and sticks around to watch his reaction. He clearly cares for him. If I sensed indifference, I would understand, but I don’t.
The approach of ‘he has no expectations of me, so he has low expectations of me’ feels like it comes from some weirdly romanticized perspective for strict academically authoritarian parenting.
Just binged the first three episodes and I have to say, I’m perfectly fine with the pacing.
I understand people expected more grit from the trailer, but the series is taking an overall more lighthearted tone than advertised and I think you’ll have a better time if you adjust your expectations accordingly now that it’s airing.
The tension itself doesn’t disappear just because they aren’t actively sabotaging each other. Kongpob and Arthit had tons of tension even when they were on decent terms after the first few episodes, and that’s the kind of vibe I’m getting here. Not necessarily a rivalry, but two very different boys who are navigating the difficulty of having a crush on someone with a such a different demeanor and walk of life.
This whirlwind romance is kinda refreshing in a sea of shows where they don’t realize how they feel until the second or third to last episode. 🤷♀️
