I agree but I don't think he doesn't care. He just doesn't know how to emote. In ABAAB, he overacted and some…
Right, my point exactly. I just don’t see any warmth or life portrayed by Mew, so it’s just an element of his bad acting that is negatively impacting the storytelling for me.

Same. It’s especially hard to ignore when you’re asking yourself why Ray ended up falling for someone who seems so vacant.
He’s lonely, so I’d easily believe him leaning on someone who appears like they care for him. The fact that Mew seems incapable of looking at anyone with even the barest affection or warmth in his eyes makes it difficult to buy that Ray fell in love for any reason except the script demanded it to be so.

It was glaringly obvious against Khaotung. It genuinely gave me the vibe of a talented actor practicing against their friend whose job it is to stand there without actually existing in the scene.
Yes, I agree. This is the first time I've seen him in a series and I find all his scenes boring. He always seems…
I noticed the same thing. Force’s performance is nothing to write home about here, but in a reactionary position against the driving force that is Neo? He was not at all as flavorless as he is against Mew.
Top’s scenes with Boston are the only ones where he feels like a person and not a caricature.
Sand and Ray look like the only ones who can make it out of this sh*tshow happy. However, Sand seems to be falling…
I was surprised to see Sand falling as fast as he is. I was kinda expecting Ray to fall harder (potentially rebounding) and Sand to get slightly overwhelmed by it.

Yeah, I feel you. The idea he’s just fundamentally not very good at it seemed harsh, so I was trying to be a little charitable by saying maybe he’s not even trying. All I can say is I hope he improves with practice and I’m disappointed the director doesn’t seem to be effectively guiding him or asking for more takes.
His acting after the kiss was just as bad. He literally could not portray anything but a furrowed brow.
Judging by this episode and the preview of the next, I wonder if this is verging into more fluffy territory already?
I’m sure there will be road bumps but it will be surprising if the messiness peaked around episode three. I was bracing myself for a spiderweb of lies, love triangles and cheating.
this is my first time seeing him in a role and I've kinda noticed that too, is this his usual acting style though?
It’s my first time seeing him act as well. The popular opinion seems to be that he was pretty stiff and terrible in Enchanté, and his character in A Boss and a Babe was a little too slapstick to be able to judge seriously.
Sorry, but at this point, how can anyone defend Book’s acting in this series?
Ray was very clearly confessing he was about to kill himself over the phone and Mew was whining his name as if he said he wouldn’t let him copy his math homework. When he shows up in person to hold his friend sobbing naked in the tub, his expressions are like he doesn’t even know he’s in the frame.
Can’t shake the feeling that Book simply doesn’t care about this role. He’s been phoning it in from the start. 🤷♀️
There’s something about the unapologetic and comfortable portrayal of sexuality in this series that is so refreshing.
From the beginning, BL as a genre has been heavily saturated with male characters who are generally not attracted to men. Their sexual orientation is explained away with the ‘I’m only attracted to him, but I don’t like other guys’ trope more often than not. That may be representative of the lived experience for some people, but the industry’s reluctance to show male characters who love sex with men has become increasingly obvious. I’m enjoying the way this show subverts it to different extents with most of its characters so far.
Boston might be a jerk, but seeing a character who openly enjoys sex and sexuality so much that he’ll quite literally destroy friendships for some dick is weirdly kind of awesome.

I think the ‘join me’ was just a lighthearted extension of that, and then he got his feelings hurt when Boston rejected.
