On My Country: The New Age Dec 3, 2019
This drama was really epic for me. It was definitely what I would consider a typical very well made Korean historical drama with an amazing story of brotherhood and friendship, besides all the part related to history itself. The acting here was amazing...the three leads did a great job as their feelings were conveyed perfectly well even only with their facial expressions. I already knew Jang Hyuk's talent and was pleasantly surprised by Woo Do Hwan and Yang Se Jong. I believe it deserves a full 10.

I enjoyed this drama a lot. I thought it was written, filmed and acted very well. Yes it did remind me of western series but somehow K dramas always manage to feel very different.
I would have preferred a closed story without a sequel, but if the quality is the same as this one then I will gladly wait for it.
On When the Camellia Blooms Nov 23, 2019
This drama definitely turned out to be a hidden gem for me. It started out a little too jumpy and quirky and I wondered what all that strange setting was about.
However as the episodes unfolded the story very slowly drew me in, not only the mistery/thriller part, but mostly the whole family feels of that little town. I can say that it truly became more and more beautiful as it went forward (usually the opposite happens in Kdramas) and by the end I felt really sorry to let it go.
The message between the lines here was so enriching...wickedness can be beaten by many good people sticking together!! It's a 9.5 for me with half a point less for the rocky start, but otherwise one of the best dramas of 2019.
On Melting Me Softly Nov 21, 2019
I agree with the many opinions about how this drama was badly written. It's a shame as the main idea was quite original which could have turned this drama into a very interesting project if developed properly. Unfortunately it wasn't so and the whole story dragged endlessly until I actually couldn't wait to finish it. Like many other viewers I held on for JCW who doesn't seem to be choosing the right scripts lately!! I will keep my hopes up for the future. So for me the rating can't be more than 5 also for the complete lack of chemistry between the leads.

Thanks for this article, I am enjoying this drama very much indeed for the great acting, good writing and wonderful action/cinematography settings. Yes it is quite a bother that we are constantly waiting for the new episodes but it's all well worth it.

The Qi Lei that has been in a coma for 5 years is the real Lu Zhun. They essentially swapped faces and identities.
And swapped voices too...totally ridiculous!!

I haven't been watching C dramas for long having completed 38 on the whole and unfortunately this is the first one I see full of typical Korean dramas clichès!! The reason why I completed this drama was mainly because of the really good acting and the lovely settings and clothes, whereas the writing here was truly atrocious!! Yes I know perfectly well that fiction can be unrealistic but the main plot here was totally absurd and didn't make any sense at all...maybe it should be considered mostly a fantasy contemporary drama as nothing remotely similar could happen in the real world. At the same time the writers showed very little creativity for many other aspects of the story which were so predictable. For these reasons I can't rate it with more than a 6 even if I hope to see the leads in future dramas.

This is such a well written article which really describes this drama perfectly! I feel exactly the same as indeed the story is building up little by little whilst keeping the viewers entertained and interested at the same time. I think the mixture of mistery/rom com here is perfect and I also appreciate the very down to Earth natural setting of the small town where everyone gossips but sticks together like a big family. I am glad there is a lot more to watch and I hope it keeps up with the great quality so far.

where did you watch it and does it have eng subs?
I watched this 8 years ago as you can see, so I have no idea where it can be found now. Yes it did have Eng sub at the time as I don't understand Japanese.

Up to now I have watched quite a few modern day Chinese dramas but this is the first one where I came across so many overused and bothersome clichès (mostly typical of Kdramas). The reason why lately I preferred C dramas was because they were more down to Earth and realistic and problems were usually talked about and sorted out pretty quickly. Unfortunately this didn't happen in this drama as angst was forever pushed forward with always the same motivations.
Luckily I really appreciated the good work all the cast did here as the acting was perfect with strong chemistry between the leads and also the clothes and settings were truly beautiful. For this reason my rating went up to a 7.5 as otherwise it would have been much lower. If you have the patience to sit through neverending push and pulls for 46 episodes then watch this drama.

What an interesting article...thanks for writing it. I really appreciate Hu Ge even if I only saw him in Sound of the Desert, Nirvana in Fire and The Disguiser. I didn't know about his past accident and I really admire him for going back to acting so soon. I am now waiting for his new projects.

I really don't know why I watched this drama until the end. Probably because I am fond of the lead actor and I liked all of his past dramas. Unfortunately this one was lacking most of all because of how it was written. I can't believe that in 2019 we still see people staring at trucks driving towards them at full speed without quickly moving aside (which happened twice here!!) and there always has to be a time break between the main couple at the end of the drama!! I am really quite fed up of these clichès and wish the writers would use their creativity in a different way. Also here the mistery part was dragged on for too long with always the same flashbacks shown to us and no new clues only to keep us hanging. The only good thing here was the classical music! Not recommended.
On When the Devil Calls Your Name Sep 22, 2019
This is the first fantasy/reality drama that I enjoyed since after Goblin. I thought the mixture of these two genres here was really well made with a higher percentage of reality which is why I carried on watching it.
Yes the plot didn't always run smootly as it was a little confusing at first and towards the end but thankfully the last episode gave a good closure. I liked the overall message of how the greed of humans can be devastating but their willpower is their strength.
All the cast here were very good however for me the roles of Ha Rip and the Devil really stood out. Overall an original and different drama which I recommend.

What a heartwarming drama this was!! I started watching it by chance and little by little grew fond of all the characters here, so much that I know I will miss them.
The great plus of this drama is that it reflects very well every day life and how hard it is to succeed and make a living, yes I admit the story drags a little in the middle but it's well worth carrying on. Everything was so greatly written and acted that it felt as if we were living every single struggle the leads were going through.
My favourite character here was the father, an amazing character who was warm, affectionate, funny, realistic and empathetic at the same time, he really made me chuckle at times. I had never seen neither of the young leads before and I was extremely pleased with their performance here so I will keep a watch out for any future project.
I highly recommend this drama which was truly beautiful also for the enriching message that it conveys.

Wooow, I am really excited for this season as I have to say that for the whole of 2019 Korean dramas haven't shined for me as before(with a few exceptions as Nokdu Flower or Designated Survivor). There are quite a few in this list which I will certainly watch and which I hope won't disappoint. Thanks for this very useful article.

Ji Sung never disappoints and he was great also in this drama. Indeed the topic of euthanasia is really too controversial and delicate to be easily dealt with so I understand the shift of the story towards pain management. I am grateful that the subject was mentioned anyway as it can get people thinking. Yes, the last two episodes were a bit weaker compared to the bulk of the drama but they gave closure to all the other subplots going on. All the cast did a great job on the whole and I am glad I saw a few new faces too.
