Lol I literally wasn't able to sleep well today because I'm too excited for Alice in Borderland's release. Words can't describe how happy I am that I can now see in a few hours my favorite manga's live action adaptation, with my favorite pairing (KENTAO!!) as the leads. I feel blessed. From the character descriptions/trailers, I can see they changed a few things but let's see how it all goes. Here's to hoping for the best for the series, the cast, and the whole team! LET'S GO ALICE IN BORDERLAND!!
god i am so excited but i am worried about them switching arisu's and shuntaro's specialty like just why?????…
OHMYGOD SAME??!? That's what I'm most concerned about, too! One friend mentioned that they may change it later on just like how Kuina's changed in the manga so let's see!!!
It's my absolute fave! I like how the mangaka took the death game premise and made it his own with his excellent…
Exactly!! That's what I was worried about - Arisu's specialty is a major part of the story, so idk how they'll work this out. But then again a friend pointed out that maybe the specialties might change in the series, like what we had with Kuina changing from a clubs type to a spades type. Maybe Arisu's and Chishiya's specialties will change by the end of the 1st season?
For those of you who end up finishing it, could you please tell me if it ends on a cliffhanger/hints at a second…
It hasn't aired yet but as someone who has read the manga, I can already tell that they're going to cut it at this very important part, and it's a really great cliffhanger if they do, because I could imagine already the hype and scenarios that people could think of for this one hahaha. The manga spans 18 volumes so they really won't be able to adapt all of it in one season. :)
Yeah watching that trailer gave me some major flashbacks to my early mangareading days. I've read this one, its…
It's my absolute fave! I like how the mangaka took the death game premise and made it his own with his excellent execution. Considering that there's no fantasy elements at all, this is a great feat.
Also, they have released character posters and they switched Arisu and Chishiya's specialties so that Arisu is a diamonds type, while Chishiya is the hearts type. I'm nervous about that detail, but I do hope that they get this switch to work.
Yes, definitely! As a fan and someone who has read the manga, I have this theory that it will end at this one…
OMG YES!!! Have you read the manga too? :D Imagine the ending part as showing the press conference of the face cards, and then the very last scene will be of the blimps hanging around Borderland -- and cut to black. Darn, that's one great season finale, indeed.
Plus, the fans and viewers will have to guess who the actors for the other face cards are based on the press conference, think of it as a little easter egg to help keep the hype up for season 2!
Actually, the connecting through the phone thing is a new aspect added to the live action :)In the manga, they…
Yep, maybe they are trying to make it "more modern", in a way, not to mention that it is probably more convenient for the live action. I hope you enjoy reading it and you're welcome! :)
Ok so many familiar names out there but am I the only one getting sliiiiiiiight vibes of Nerve in it? Maybe it's…
Actually, the connecting through the phone thing is a new aspect added to the live action :) In the manga, they didn't use phones and relied on the monitors and actual cards instead. The manga was great btw, absolutely my favorite and I greatly recommend it especially if you guys like death game genres that are dark, gritty, and psychological with existential themes.
Do you think that this will have more than one season?
Yes, definitely! As a fan and someone who has read the manga, I have this theory that it will end at this one particular chapter which is also an absolute cliffhanger lol. Based from what I see in the trailer, I'm starting to think that my hunch is going to be true. If they're going to end it at that part I could imagine all the reactions from the people already clamoring for a season 2 hahaha
When they announced this I was kind of excited but now with more information and the trailer I just see it's more…
Well, I agree that the concept is the same but the execution is definitely what sets it apart from the others. You can read the manga for it :) It's more psychological and darker than the other death game mangas, it delves into the existential aspect of the games, the question of "why do you live?" is a recurring theme. It's because of that - and a lot of other factors - that this became my most favorite manga. I don't know how they'll translate it to the live action adaptation but I do hope that they would be able to do it well, I can see that the visuals are no longer a problem, the script is what should be watched out for.
I don't want this drama to end, seriously, it's THAT good, it's a gem among romcom Jdramas. I can't stop thinking of what the full story was supposed to be like because I can see it getting better and better in the supposed next episodes, but I guess we'll never know.
And I'd just like to say - Haruma's character here is very fitting for his last role on TV. Seeing him play a bright, happy-go-lucky character who smiles a lot is like a balm to the soul. And even though it hurts every time I remember the reality, I can't help but feel comforted that at least, he would be able to freely give this beautiful smile of his up there. At least up there, he won't lose this smile.
To those who are watching this drama like I am, let's all look forward to the last episode tomorrow.
ok for anybody wondering, this manga is at a god level for me along with death note and monster. I hope they adapt…
Same thoughts! The manga is already god-tier so if they played their cards right (no pun intended) and adapted the source material faithfully, then I'm willing to bet that this would indeed be extremely big.
is it gonna be multiple seasons, the frustrating netflix way?
Since I read the manga, I actually hope that there will be multiple seasons because cramming it all into 8 episodes seems impossible. Personally, I think it's better for them to as much as possible faithfully adapt the source material (no matter how many seasons it takes) than to ruin the essence and story and cram it all into just 8.
If someone's looking for a sign to read the source material - this is it haha. Imawa no Kuni no Alice (Alice in Borderland) is a god-tier manga, and having this adapted into a live-action series is a really, really good choice for the production team.
I can't wait for its release so that I can appreciate the work and effort that they put into bringing this world to life (and Kento and Tao as the leads are a bonus - two of my faves, and my absolute favorite onscreen pair!)
