interesting start!

the thing i liked about myung soohyun dramas is that in most of her dramas (monthly magazine home, drinking solo, a poem a day) there would a slice of life component with a central "theme" to each episode, usually driven by not just the story of the main leads but also the stories of the side characters. it added a poetic element to each episode, something to tie up the message that we all go through similar struggles, whether that be in terms of finding a home (MMH), finding a reason to relish in aloneness (DS), or finding art that reflects your feelings (APAD).interestingly, i don't immediately see this particular component in Extremely Sensible Alcoholic. this drama also stands out because MSH doesn't usually write second-chance romance or childhood/high school connection, so it seems she is taking a new approach to her writing. even though there are some differences, I can still feel the heavy slice of life component that this drama will be driven on, there are many side characters that will definitely push the story forward, similar to the stories of the villagers in hometown cha cha cha.I am enjoying it so far, because it's fresh but also seems familiar since I'm such a big fan of this screenwriter. I am looking forward to a wonderful healing journey between the leads filled with warming stories of our side characters and familial themes. hopefully we can also get a ha seok jin cameo lol, this drama is quite the antithesis to drinking solo.
