I was initially skeptical how the age gap would work in the drama without feeling cringey. Fortunately, the cast and the storyline between the leads are done so well that I subconsciously stopped thinking about it once I saw the quality of acting. It’s clear that the male lead portrays the older character as confident and charming by their first formal meeting. He’s not some gray beard in a wheelchair. There are several scenes where he is shown as athletic. The female lead’s character is not naive or subservient like some princess fresh out of college. She’s smart, confident, outspoken and better with people. Their relationship is plausible, enjoyable to watch and works for this drama.
This is definitely worth watching! This drama is so good that I had to see the other works from the directors, screenwriter and composer! I never expected a palace drama would make me anticipate each episode. The typical palace drama has a standard script of back stabbings, poisonings and fight for power. I usually watch for the leads and pray a decent script and happy ending will follow. I am mostly disappointed unless I find a gem like Nirvana in Fire. So far the first 14 episodes are very good. I love the slow burn romance and blend of light hearted scenes within the serious plots. Qin Hao who places the eldest prince is fantastic in Bad Kids and is the perfect male lead here. The background music actually fits the scenes especially the intense scenes.
I started watching to see Godfrey in his last drama and I was not disappointed in his performance. The drama dragged in the middle even though it showed some truth to this side of the entertainment industry. It was very predictable and started to feel like there were too many scenes around the irrelevant secondary characters (Lin Xiang, her entourage, her love interest and her fans). The ending closed up nicely. 8/10
I think a 2 on one session with Jang Hyuk throwing confidence at him (or throwing him til he gains confidence…
Ji Sung is a great example. I loved the multiple characters he played in Kill Me, Heal Me. Each one was a standout above the average character with him playing the part. I did not know about Jang Hyuk’s sports background. He is similar to So Ji Sub with a similar background. I love his dramas as well.
It’s not even annoying anymore. It’s no longer entertaining. There is no way I can watch to the end. Dropped. The Taiwanese version is the best because of the comedy, the side characters and the chemistry between the leads. The Korean version Is second best because of Jang Hyuk and Jang Na Ra in the lead roles. Jang Hyuk’s character is all in your face.
The trailer looks epic! This is a very strong cast with many experienced and talented supporting cast members. The director is not new and has many completed dramas. This has a lot going for it. I hope it airs this year.
I started watching for the appropriately named Smile character. Her interactions with her love interests were…
I must add that most of the male supporting characters are predators that attempt to sexually assault Smile on too many occasions throwing in a few tight fisted punches to her midsection when she resisted. They were alone or with a group of accomplices who openly declared they like to watch! Smile ends up with a wooden beam to the forehead knocking her unconscious on one occasion! One drunk father punches and kicks the high school age Kyro who curls in a fetal position with arms around his head for protection! I am not naive to believe dramas should show a perfect world. I find it ironic that all the alcohol labels and drinking glasses are blurred while the intense violence against women (and children) are repeatedly shown in such detail. It does not add much. Maybe in a world where boy rental comes with a coupon this type of violence is normal. I found it very hard to watch.
I started watching for the appropriately named Smile character. Her interactions with her love interests were precious. I skipped through the scenes with the Liz and Kyro characters. They were both annoyingly hypocritical and redundant. Their parts could have been written better. They dragged down the storyline at times. No rewatch value except to gawk at Badz’s body! He worked hard. 7.5/10
Maybe because I've not read the novel or whatnot..but I truly have a great distaste towards Lin Xiang. 18 episodes…
She does a great job of representing the celebrities who can do no wrong. She makes money from the fan base. Advertisers love it because the fans buy the products she sells. A good example is Jungkook of BTS who sells out products just by wearing, eating, drinking or touching them. Fans just need to see the shape of the back of a bottle on his bathroom shelf in a picture. They will identify the product almost immediately and the product will sell out in several countries within hours! He has sold out lip balm, room deodorizer, snacks, colognes and even baby lotion because they were in his pics or video uploads. These celebrities are gold. Jungkook is the opposite of Lin Xiang’s personality. She is horrible. But, money talks and is always very forgiving. The Kardashians come to mind. It was Kim Kardashian’s “accidentally” released sex tapes that made her infamous. They turned that into more time in the spotlight and more sponsors which created the money churning businesses they have now. This type of celebrity will be around because fans are forgiving.
I’m a huge fan after seeing episode 1! I prefer light hearted romance to mystery type dramas. This has me hooked. The story starts with a bang and immediately takes you back to see how you got there. The tension is great. Cinematography is movie quality and gritty as well as the structures and people. The acting is on point. Kudos to the child actors. They are doing great! I’m glad I saw this before reading the description. It was more impactful not to know too much going into it. This is one drama to avoid the spoilers to see the mystery unfold on its own. It’s that good. This is only 12 episodes instead of the standard 30+ length for Chinese dramas these days. I am anticipating there will be little room for fillers and useless dialogue. That would be refreshing.
I started to watch anticipating the sweet romance acted out by two of my favorite Chinese actors. I got that and got all the useless baggage of the side characters which made me glad it’s finished. The stories of the side characters can add depth and complexity to a drama when well written. It didn’t happen in this one. I skipped a lot of the scenes to maintain my sanity. I want to see the leads together again in a better written drama. 7.5/10
Should I give this a try? I'm a big fan of the leads but this drama is 50ep long and I don't care for a lot of…
Watch it for the chemistry and charisma of the lead couple. They are sweet. The supporting characters don’t support the story. They actually start to drag down the drama from the middle straight to the end. Just skip their scenes when you can’t take it anymore!
I just watch eps 51 on duboku and then watch eps 45 on IQIYI app it the same ,I don’t understand does anyone’s…
It’s the same drama with shorter episodes in the 51 episode version. (Think of it as the same size loaf of breads where one is thin sliced and the other is thick sliced.) More episodes mean more time to place advertisements before and after they are shown on regular TV. More ads mean more money earned for the TV station.
I did not know about Jang Hyuk’s sports background. He is similar to So Ji Sub with a similar background. I love his dramas as well.
