I wish they would remake Autumn’s Concerto. That Taiwanese drama introduced me to the two Wu’s: Vanness Wu, whose acting in it was memorable, and Chris Wu who introduced me to second lead syndrome!
Fated to Love You and My Lucky Star are my two favorite Taiwanese dramas, and that is where my favorites with…
Fated to Love you was one of my first Taiwanese dramas. I loved the cruise ship scenes. They were startling and hilarious! The current Chinese version, You Are My Destiny, censors out those scenes so much it’s uneventful and PG rated. But, I’m still watching because of the cast.
You know even in the West there is a high tolerance for these kind of cultural appropriation if it falls under…
This is not about cultural appropriation to me. This is also not satire. A white person wearing a judo outfit is not necessarily a racist. But, making his skin a more yellow tone and adding a traditional Japanese hair style is offensive, mocking and racist. Then, add flying insects to the Japanese hairstyle is just as racist and offensive particularly in the context that the drama is shown to a group of people whose children will come up to a black person to see if the skin color will rub off! Checkout the Youtube videos of black Westerners describing old people touching their hair without permission. Koreans in general have little knowledge of blacks in general except what is seen in the Western media. And those are mostly negative images. So, to portray the image that dreadlocks are inherently dirty while showing the Korean man in the shower scene as clean leaves a negative impression on the Jamaicans and the hair style. That at a minimum is insensitive and is racist particularly when the man sports a dark full body tan in a country where dark skin is seen as ugly.
There is no open dialogue in this drama that discusses the negative portrayal and open racism like is seen in Itaewon Class. This just shows the insect infested dreadlocks wearing dark skinned man as a pervert outfitted in Jamaican colors as comedy relief without addressing the blatant racism. That’s just wrong.
I’m not sure why they thought extra episodes of QQ’s relationship was needed. They should have added more romance between the main couple. It’s the only reason I’m still watching.
I squealed like an idiot throughout! It’s sweet and too short! But, I’m so glad at least one side character is feeling and expressing my pain! I feel the same when a great drama is ending and the only faces left to look at are on the 2 legged and 4 legged beings in my living room! Lol! I’m gonna watch this again a few times until I calm down. 9.5/10
It’s funny, playful, dark, and is teasing romance by episode 8. It has the cliche pop-up exes, love quadrangle and nagging mothers. But, it’s well balanced, not too depressing or too silly. The eccentric side characters are the frosting on top. Hoping it can sustain this momentum for 32 episodes.
I only watched 2 episodes so far but how come I find it totally different from the novel? Please tell me I am…
Per AvenueX on Youtube, the drama was changed to focus on the female lead. Godfrey’s parts are much smaller in the drama. I’ve watched 13 episodes. The novel author is the script writer.
So I think this drama could do A LOT better if it was shortened, especially in terms of the number of episodes.…
Feels like it should be done already. Nothing exciting happening at ep. 27-28. I’m skipping almost all of secondary couples and the enemy. The mother is obnoxious.
Sadly, 2-3 yrs is the average start delay for most of these 50+ episode dramas. There are a lot more dramas than…
There are many other things that can cause delays besides lack of TV time slots. Slow to pass randomly changing censorship requirements which could require cutting re-editing/re-filming and currently the coronavirus pandemic.
It started great. Now, it starting to feel like a series of predictable cliche drama scenarios: i.e., clingy exes, late confessing love rivals, angry mother-in-law, and repeated break ups over misunderstandings. The acting talent will be wasted if they throw in more predictable scenarios that leave nothing to the imagination.
This dragged on for too long. Could have (should have) been 16 episodes without losing anything. The antagonists were irritating and extremely predictable. 7.5/10
This was decent, but, boring in the last half. The main leads were the best of this. The actor playing Momo was worth watching. I have a bias for the female lead based on her many excellent performances. She was good in this. This is not one of her top dramas. The little girl playing the four year old Ran is a scene stealer! I kept watching to see more scenes of her, her mother and Momo. It was hard to finish the last 3 - 4 episodes. The relationship of the secondary couple felt forced and rushed. I really lost interest in the outcome by that point. Rating it a generous 8/10.
