But LSY's character is one of my favorite ever (and it's not independent from the fact that ZWY looks just perfect, while playing this character :)

"RESPECT and ADMIRE him for that!!!" His character is wonderful (it's one of my favorite ever), and he plays it excellent.. just that in that scene LSY suffered from that situation, that's why I felt pity of him.

"And to me personally, the ML was not at all attractive." The same for me... and it's the first criteria when I am choosing a drama... (the second is the FL, and than the story, which has to have a happy ending :)

"I expect she still kept him a little at arm's length" In the flashback we see them hugging each other tightly. That doesn't mean that there were more than hugs between them, but it's already huge for that time.

Just one reason would be enough for her not wanting to reopen the past: he is the enemy of her brother, who has become clearly the most important person in her heart. He has all her trust, respect, esteem, and love (in the general meaning of it), and she sees clearly that approaching her past love isn't worth to ruin this relationship. She knows her brother very well now, and she can compare his personality to the other's, she sees perfectly the difference between the two, and she made her choice in which camp she would like to be.

I think that the matter of taste is entirely subjective. But if someone can explain the personal reasons behind its own positive/negative feelings about something, it's always interesting for me to understand these feelings.

It's a pity than that they have shown that scene in a trailer.

"They were never lovers, that seems a far stretch. " When she tells the story of "her maid" to him, she says that she wanted to spend to rest of her life with him. And flashbacks are showing them together tightly hugging each other. So yes, she loved him when she was naive and never knew an other man in her life. In that sens, we can say that they loved each other previously. (She has to think now that it's not him, but her who was blind at that time).

I think that with hundreds of dramas per yer, after some time it's more and more difficult to tell a story which hasn't been told yet at least for some parts. So for long term drama viewers, there will be less and less new things to watch. But there are also always newcomers to Chinese drama land, who will enjoy these "already told" stories because they haven't seen any of that kind before, so for them it's new and enjoyable.

And of course everyone has its own taste concerning the stories, the actors and the genre of dramas, and opinions may vary widely concerning the quality of a drama, it's normal. :)

"ZWY is totally playing in his comfort zone with this role, it's a replica of his role in Lost You Forever" I haven't watched that one either.

I have never watched the story of Minglan and I don't plan to do, so I enjoy this drama very much, it's very entertaining.

We are at episode 26 out of 40, and the romance between the two leads hasn't even started yet. It's about intrigues and secrets within a family, and there is a political plot too.

I still hope that the river scene would be shown in a flashback at least.
