I think, it is because Huaijin is the one who got caught with CP. Not his father.
Those two totally got busted but I can’t help but think Dad could have took the blame. Thrown in something such as he didn’t raise his son right, he’s an embarrassment to the family, he’s an embarrassment to the king… and taken his own life. I think that would’ve been enough to have the king let his son go. The king didn’t want to punish their family in the first place even though he knew full well his son didn’t come up with this on his own. It was the chancellor who pushed the king to punish the Meng family and blew it in the open so the King had to save face and pacify the people. I know it’s not good for the drama storyline, but I think the dad‘s death would’ve worked.
Though he’s on the opposite side, I really respect Meng Hua Jin’s character. I just can’t understand why he had to sacrifice himself for the family when his dad could’ve easily done it and spared the next generation. His dad admitted that he’s old now and he basically threw his own son to his grave. I don’t understand why he couldn’t have taken one for the team and took his own life, the end effect would’ve been the same thing.

By losing his only son, he basically terminated that part of his own family..

Yep. She's crying because she never got closure on her 7 year relationship. He just slammed the door shut and then decides to burst back in again. Whether they are tears of anger coming out, frustration, or whatever it is - she spent 7 years with this guy and she owes herself the time and ability to run through the whole spectrum of emotions.
Why does the good for nothing ex (up to ep. 16) want to get back with SXF so bad? Does his character really want to get back with her bc it was a 7 year relationship? Or is the storyline implying he has an ulterior motive? It didn't seem like his dad was all that crazy about SXF earlier in the drama and it's not like she's a rich 2nd generation daughter for business alliance.

Our FML knows the Na Zhan is a suspicous guy who's always testing her. She knows she's in a foreign land full of spies. Why ever would she just prance around town without a mask with HQY? She's too smart and cautious to be that reckless.
And I know nothing about Na Zhan but he's killing this role. He's not the typical scrawny hot guy king. He's looks like he has the full commanding stature of a a big shot king.

Ep 30 - "SRQ, if you kill PWX I will hate you, hate you for an entire lifetime" - um ok. That's all you got. I get such mixed emotions from our FML. I'm feeling more like the entire drama is SRQ and there's nothing special about our FML. She relies heavily on PWX and without him she basically is helpless. So why is this drama the princess royal? Ugh, I find myself frustrated with our heroine FML in ep 16 and 17. Her conversation with SRQ seemed childish, I don't understand why she would have expected SRQ to do anything but what he is doing? For someone who is living life a 2nd time she just seems so naive in these 2 eps.

She's very pretty but I'm not sold on her actually acting. I feel she tends to overact in most of the dramas vs a natural vibe. So I struggle to buy into her character and lose interest - just my personal opinion.
