In the past, most chinese dramas were voice over dubbed. It has gotten better now but they still do it. I find certain actors are always dubbed and Xu Kai is one of them. It's not because he can't speak Mandarin but I learned from others that some have dialects very apparent when they speak and so the dubbing eliminates that. I've heard Xu Kai's real voice before, it's actually a bit soft and may not always have the right tone but I always prefer the real actor's voice. Li Yi Tong on the other hand has been dubbed before but not all her dramas where dubbed. That's why I was able to tell it was her real voice in Court Lady.
Who is here and utterly delighted that we have this new drama to help us make it through the days without the Long Ballad? I am a Xu Kai fan and been waiting for this drama. Li Yi Tong is one of my favorite actresses. I've liked pretty much all of her dramas. Thank goodness she isn't dubbed but sadly, Xu Kai has always been dubbed. Ugh.
I have to say that I wasn't very into LeYan's character. I had been waiting for her to grow up and learn. It's interesting how her storyline was running parallel to that of CG. Both were somewhat 'missing' and both ended up finding a younger brother to care for and both had to deal with the loss of their younger brother. LeYan's compassion and kind heartedness although at times served her no good but harm, other times, it won her friendship and opportunities. She did not survive those horrible and traumatic situations by suddenly being cold hearted/toughness. She kept her genuine self but finds a purpose in life to be a proper princess. I actually quite admire her for that.
I agree with you... because ashile sun went for war in his younger days, so he will definitely have wider view…
We can imagine through what was verbalized by his comrades. He was described as appearing to show a lack of emotion (he had barely smiled) and he doesn't do as much as he would for his comrades compared to what he does for CG. He was very eager to impress the Great Khan in securing his place in the Eagle Team and in doing so, created his long standing rivalry with She'er. Before that epic seige in ep 13-15, Sun had a reputation of being merciful to his enemies and he does not believe in unnecessary suffering. In that regard, he is an exception to a typical character profile of a young hero in the Grasslands. They were raised in harsh environments with limited resources (hence the constant need for war) where they are taught to be tough, have little mercy and above all, loyalty to the Great Khan should be unquestionable. After meeting Changge, he obviously starts showing more care and emotion than he otherwise would have, he has lost a drive to impress the Great Khan and merely just wants to ensure the survival of the people in his care. He has grown weary of warfare. I don't necessarily think because of CG, he changed significantly for the best. What changed was he has found someone he truly wants to protect with his life that has meaning and not due to responsibilities.
While I agree that it seems like the writers are maximizing too much on the ML saving FL trope, I’d also like…
I don't actually think Ashile Sun is too blinded by his love for her. Sure, he protects her and saves her with almost no regard for himself but if you've seen the episode where he explains how he manages his Eagle team and CG, he explains it so well that as the leader of Eagle Team, he carries out his responsibilities and puts them in the forefront. As an individual named Sun, he would put his life on the line for CG at any time. He at least doesn't just take off to look for her without sorting out his first and foremost responsibilities in the Grasslands. Though at some point, I theorize he will no longer be able to stay there any longer so long as he loves CG as he will have to pick a side. We know from history, Sun is on the losing side of the great Tang Dynasty.
well, he shouldn't blame her because she's not responsible for his mom's death. that's on she'er.
She actually is although indirectly. If she didn't decided she had to save the old and injured general, his mother wouldn't have been involved. If it was discovered that his mother was involved in helping the old general escape, she wouldn't have been left to live. There is a Chinese saying where it means something along the lines of, just because you didn't cause the person's death, they did die because of them. That's how I see CG in relation to his mother. But like I said, Sun internalizes it as his fault for not protecting his mother which serves to reconcile his regret for saying what he did to CG when he was in grief.
I had planned to take today off work (work from home) in order to watch all 8 new episodes today. I have to say, that it broke my heart to see CG putting her life in danger for something that is none of her business AGAIN and she completely ruin the efforts of Sun risking his life to save her. That scene where he is utterly disappointed but can't do much about it is spot on. I then love how Shi Er does a 180 on Sun after realizing his big mistake and chose to actually save Sun when it was the best opportunity to take him down. He is not a complete coward and an idiot. For once, we aren't stuck with an antagonist with only one sided evil but one where you can start to sympathize with.
It was painful to see the 4-5 episodes where CG and Sun are separated. Most painful than seeing LeYan being 'missing' for over 10 episodes. So painful, you can see it in Sun's eyes - that anxiousness and eagerness to find her because they left on bad terms. That just speaks to how great Sun is. He had every reason to hate CG or blame her for losing the only family member he had. He doesn't. He internalizes it as his fault for not doing enough to protect the people he cares for. It frustrates me to see CG is trying to be a hero in other people's story arc. It's part of her growing up to see the error of her ways- too stubborn to accept advice from others, only going by what she believes to be the necessary thing to do.
I'm happy to see the couple reunites in ep 31 to come given the previews. My heart aches for their separation. I was literally screaming when I saw Sun in CG's room and didn't see on the floor of paper with his name written all over it. For once, we see that CG starts caring for Sun and longs for him.
I don't know how I am going to survive 4 full days without new episodes. I need to take part of Monday off too :)
A very important reminder I couldn't but just leave here. This drama is not a about a swoonworthy "kyaaaakyaaa"…
I 100% agree with you. Part of why I love Ashina Sun's character is his way of protecting CG isn't the commonly seen behaviour of MLs being overly protective of a FL. He recognizes that she needs to be able to stand up on her own- sure if he lends a hand but he doesn't give the impression that CG must be dependent on him in order to survive. That is so 21st century way of how a partner should support the other.
Leo Wu's recent interview where he answered which was his most favorite/memorable lines and it was the one I truly love the most as well from ep 16 where he tells her that she had to keep living on with her life even if only to be able to one day kill him - he tried to give her a purpose to live at a time she felt great loss and dispair. It's truly powerful and I love that scene. I read comments before of how Leo is too young for Dilraba but I found him very matured- the combined costumes, hairstyle and his overall presentation makes him appear older. Even his strategies on dealing with problems show the depth of his character. I have to say he is one of the most fave MLs to date and I can't get enough of him.
The company’s plan to produce too much heat and a lot of useless topics is working lol. Some just can’t even…
I don't understand the hype for shipping the 2nd leads other than eagerly awaiting their reunion. I'm sure there is a good story to their developing romance but at the moment, it's really just trying to find her and her trying to survive with little she can do. I on the other hand and obsessed with the main leads and want more and more of their screen time.
Can any please translate this please please. It makes my heart aches .https://www.instagram.com/tv/CNYCFpiAJkz/?igshid=mv2bv9fnjks6
If you are referring to CG and Sun's dialogue- it' appears Sun got hurt earlier (unknown reason) but likely due to protecting CG so she apologizes to him. She wants to save someone (likely as a captive/hostage) but it's beyond her ability to do so. Sun tries to convince her not to risk her life. She won't listen to his advice and asks him to not get involved.
As someone who has watched many many dramas with Chinese war battles, I've never cried at the scenes of uttered defeat and lost. Sure I felt sad but never to the depth of pure pain you feel through the storyline. Episodes 13-15 were painful to watch but a must see to understand the growth that CG will go through. I absolutely love every second that Leo is in. I've seen him since Condor Hero years where he played the young Yang Guo in the Chen Xiao/Michelle Chen version. I saw him again in Whirlwind Girl, Nirvana and most recently, Cross Fire. Cross Fire is in my opinion the most matured performance from Leo before the Long Ballad. In this, he is amazing even though I've not read the novel, I believe his portrayal of his character is remarkable.
I can wait for more scenes of him with CG. Prior to episode 16, there has been very few short scenes of them together but with the continuing storyline, I can't wait to see CG turn around and genuinely accept Ashina Sun.
I read somewhere, this drama has surpassed "The Untamed" in terms of rating when it was first aired (Untamed got…
The first 10 episodes of The Untamed didn't have particularly high ratings because the storyline's pace wasn't very good/interesting (reviewers points) and the ratings didn't make a sharp turn upright till that crucial key episode #14 onwards. But with Word of Honor, we see a steady pace of the storyline, making the viewers beg for the next episode as sugar fixes are dropped left, right and centre. I'm on episode 14 now and I can see it has increase those moments even more. I truly hope we can make it to the final episode.
I couldn't agree more! not sure how the censorship works in China but after Addicted, we should all learn our…
It's the highlight of my every morning it airs (I'm in a different timezone) and I got a bit sad yesterday when there are no episodes released on a Sunday. boo.
I think people should be careful not to comment on social media too much about it having flirting scenes, BL stuff in general as it continues to air. There is always an ability to cut episodes, cut scenes and re-edited if the Chinese media officials are getting too much wind that this is too much BL. It passed censorship, great. But we don't need to constantly point it out online. Once it's all aired, feel free to talk to hearts content but they do pay attention to online forums about the drama. Btw, I'm not a hater. I love this drama and I giggle at certain scenes. The Untamed has made me love BL dramas more.
Not the best drama I’ve seen in terms of production and plot. The dubbing is also quite bad, and the story doesn’t…
Same here, I 'snoozed' for the first 25 episodes and the real turning point was seeing XY showing he was ill and then the attempts on trying to prolong his life were the best episodes. The ending was meh for me. All this big hype leading to the takedown of the big villain was just unremarkable. I did end up watching all 51 but honestly, not re watch worthy.
I'm here for my fave, Luo Jin and Yuan shan shan however, I've long awaited a decently made chinese drama that would showcase China's ethnic minority groups. Many of these groups have such unique traditions and rich in cultural history that many people aren't aware. They face particular set of challenges for prosperity and the ability to be self-sufficient are unique to them. I'm willing to give it a try to be educated on this and to appreciate the challenges faced by ethnic minorities.
I'm losing interest in this drama ,, I didn't watch to the latest episodes but I think it's boring and really…
I'm on ep 15 now, already started losing interest around 11. I can't even remember what is happening with the plot as it's not even memorable. I've resolved to using it as background noise while I do work. If not for ZLY, I wouldn't care for this drama. So much for high hopes and anticipation.
