Is it about BTS?
It is inspired by the story from BTS' music videos, but it's entirely fictional. It's not about their real lives.

But it's not really presenting BTS members, none of them is from a higher class or was. I still don't get it why…
It's BU (consisting of music videos, short films, notes/books, webtoon) in which every BTS member played one of the characters. These characters have some BTS members' characteristics, but the story is completely fictional.

BU started with HYYH era and I Need U, Run, Young Forever and Prologue MVs which are related to this story. It continued with Wings era (7 short Wings films, one for each boy, Japanese version of Blood Sweat and Tears MV) and Love Yourself era (in which we got Euphoria MV and 4 Highlight Reels). There's also BTS Universe Story 'Map of the Soul' video on YouTube.

This drama is based on the story from those videos + webtoon & notes which were published in the form of a book.

I have yet to see ep. 7 and 8, but arent opening scenes of each episode related to time loop/alternative reality?…
True, but I think (hope) the time travelling part will happen in connection to their personal problems. Maybe they'll try to change the root cause of everything (although I don't see how that fire incident fits into that lol).

Either way I think I'll be happy with this adaptation even if they change some parts. So far the flow has been really good and I doubt they'll mess everything up in the last few episodes, but I DO understand your concerns.

I have yet to see ep. 7 and 8, but arent opening scenes of each episode related to time loop/alternative reality? I don't see how they could make sense otherwise. I'm sure they won't completely cut out the integral part of the story (time loop).

What is the principal's deal? The man is so unnerving. Why does Hwan's father really seem like he doesn't know…
It's guilt from not being able to tell anyone what he witnessed as a child (kidnapping and death/murder of the kid at the arboretum) and the pressure from his family to keep quiet even though he remembers and wants to help catch the criminal who did it. Also, everything else that came as a result of those things, like bullying in school and the way his family treats him and acts as if they are ashamed of being related to him and as if he is a burden.

Hwan's father (in the original HYYH /BU story) also time traveled in order to save his friends, but his attempts were not successful. He probably lost parts of his memory in that process. The same thing happened to Hwan in the original story. I'm not sure that's the reason for his memory loss here tho. The drama version gave more attention to the connection between their parents (which I don't remember was a thing, but I may have forgotten the details).

So I've been one of the many who criticized Hybe for how this drama is being treated, but I've seen some conversations about it and the whole "why is Hybe not promoting this at all" argument is now clearer.

Hybe doesn't own "Begins Youth", they own BU storyline. The drama was co-produced by Hybe, and they were responsible for budget, but since they're music production company, Chorokbaem Media is in charge of the drama production and they partnered with Fingerlabs for distribution. Fingerlabs created the Xclusive platform. CM seems to have more control than Hybe when it comes to the drama.

Anyway, I still resent whoever is responsible for that obscure platform.

where are you watching this?
I'm watching it on dramacool, but some other sites probably have it too. I've even seen full episodes uploaded on YouTube by fans.

looks like they have changed some things from the bu.... Cein will get expelled not by hitting the principal but…
I saw that 'spoiler' about Cein and I just want to know whether that makes sense in the context of the story they're telling? I can't imagine HYYH Yoongi hitting Jungkook with the brick 💀
I have yet to watch 5-8 eps but reading that spoiler fu**ed me up ngl 😂

I just finished episode 4 and I have to compliment Jung Woo Jin's (Joo An) acting. His crying was so realistic and heartbreaking, I couldn't stop my own tears.

TRIGGER WARNING about their problems and mental illnesses:• Kim Hwan — Suffers from his controlling father…
I've been following HYYH storyline for years so I know all of this but when I read it in this condensed form it seems so unbearably bleak 💀 (and also explains why it has such a strong grip on me lol)

I just realized Noh Jong Hyun (Min Ce In actor) played that cute new resident in Strangers from Hell. I loved his role in that drama so much 😭

I'm so happy with their choice of actors. They're perfect!

The actor who plays Hosu reminds me so much of Hoseok 😂
I only finished ep. 1 and although it was rather slow I liked it, it was a good introduction to characters.

I just watched him in The Devil Judge and few of his scenes left me in awe. He can ACT!

I loved it! The chemistry and tension between two MLs was delicious and the plot was interesting and kept me guessing until the last moment.

Also, those robes that judges wore!!! They alone would make me raise the rating 😍

Title Death's Game Spoiler
I think it's more tricky than that. People who do commit suicide usually give up on life and leave the people…
People who care for you can't live your life for you and they can never understand you completely. If your life is so bleak that you see no reason to continue living, it clearly shows that they also failed with their support.

Now, concerning this drama specifically - JUST cutting out Death's holier than thou attitude and making him come that realization (that his life was worth living) on his own would've made it so much better. This way they just villainized the whole category of people who already live miserable lives. And I do believe some people objectively have no reason to continue living. Ending your own suffering is not selfish, people who want you to keep suffering for their own comfort are the ones who are selfish. Of course, this issue is very complex and I'm not saying suicide is the best solution for an unhappy life, but the categorical villainization in this drama really didn't sit well with me. It actually made me so annoyed that I'm not sure how I finished watching it 😅

You can find a good summary on this page: https://www.bu.edu/lernet/artemis/years/2020/projects/StudentWebsites/AudreyKWebsite/hyyh_home.html

Seo Ji Hoon is Seokjin. He doesn't die in the original story, but he keeps time travelling in order to save other boys who do die. From what I remember, in that process he starts "losing himself." We don't know which elements of the story will be kept in the drama version tho.
On A Killer Paradox Apr 12, 2024
