Based on rumors it sounds like a revenge-themed story. It's not adapted from any particular novel but it was originally based around the character wang zanghai. he is from the novel series daomu biji. the author wrote some shorts hinting at what the drama was going to be about, but this was in 2017, so a lot could have changed by now
