The books are about grave robbing in general. They have robbed tombs underground, in water, and in mountains. Really anywhere that can hide a tomb lol. Also, I have not rewatched Lost Tomb 2 in a while so I might get stories confused, sorry!!
I'll just address major differences between the novels and Lost Tomb 2 since there are a lot of differences in general. The novels are darker (it could be classified as a horror genre) and phenomenon are based in the supernatural. Meaning there are ghosts, zombies, and supernatural beings/objects of all kinds.
First, Qiling is over 100 years old and does not have a doppelgänger from the past. That whole plot line with the military was not in the novel. Second, there was no alternative universe thing going on. In the books, the bronze tree was some kind of magical tree that could grant a person's wish but only from their subconscious. Laoyang lured Wu Xie to the tree so that Wu Xie could subconsciously wish that Laoyang's mother was still alive. It worked and Laoyang lived with his mom at the end of the book. He even sent Wu Xie a letter and a photo with him and his mom. When Wu Xie saw the photo he thought Laoyang's mother "had a demonic ferocity on her pretty face." Honestly, everything involving Laoyang is really different from the novel including the story with his friend. Third, Qiling, Ning, and Pangzi never joined Wu Xie on his adventure to the bronze tree. It was just Wu Xie, Laoyang, and the guys from the other team.
There's actually more differences but this comment is already so long haha. Feel free to ask me any more questions that you have~ If you're curious about the books, lost tomb 1 is based on "Cavern of the Blood Zombies" and lost tomb 2 is based on "Angry Sea, Hidden Sands" and "Bronze Tree of Death."
This was amazing! There's no romance (but bromance!), the acting was crazy good, and the characters were likable. The plot was the best part for me. It balanced foreshadowing and plot twists perfectly. I don't think I've ever seen horror done so well in a Korean drama yet, what a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend~

Zhang Rishan is only in tomb of the sea/sand sea and mystic nine. Neither him nor Zhang Qiling/Kylin are immortal, they just have a really long life span. Nope, Reunion: Sound of the Providence (https://kisskh.at/30581-the-lost-tomb-3) is the latest release. Season 2 of this show is supposed to air sometime soon as well. Reunion is based on the novel Chong Qi (Reboot) which comes after the novel Sha Hai (Sand Sea)
Can anyone say the order to watch these all series....im a bit confused right now.....

Mystic Nine is a prequel stand alone series that tells the stories of the grave robbing families (Wu Xie is not in it). I recommend watching it before starting Tomb of the Sea since this show mentions the grave robbing families too.
