The dubbing is because of both noise pollution and accent. In both cases, either they don’t have $$ for the actor to ADR the show or the actors don’t have time. I’m chinese :)

Oftentimes it’s not that the production won’t pay but that they can’t. Production has a certain budget for the whole show, and most of it goes towards paying the actors, especially high profile ones. Sun Li for example was paid like billions for her shoes & she is known in the industry for having an agent that doesn’t negotiate her salary lower ever. There are always scandals about this on Weibo, where people complain that actors shouldn’t be paid nearly 70-80% of a show’s total budget at the cost of production quality (and all the other crew’s salaries take extreme cuts as well.) so chinese dramas tend to look “cheap” idk how to explain it. Like really fancy on the outside but on close inspection, it’s really shoddy-looking or CGIed. They do film in real forests and deserts though. Xinjiang is a super popular filming spot. Guilin is as well for forests.

However, nature landscapes are difficult to film in in China. It is EXTREMELY rural, as in possibly no internet and all outdoor toilets and stuff. No modern infrastructure at all, all tiny villages of farmers. Unpredictable weather, very uncomfortable living conditions for the whole crew..... and many actors (no matter how great they are, they are used to comfort) cannot stand that. Their pay would have to be even higher.

Well, I disagree with amazing cinematograpy and that is the reason why i am so hesitant to watch wuxia or as i…
I agree with you about the cinematography thing but I want to say that historicals aside (where Hengdian is obv the main studio), most Chinese shows are shot using real locations. That's the reason most Chinese actors are rarely at home in Beijing or Shanghai where most of them own homes, and spend most of their time flying all around the country. It's common for a Chinese actor to only be home 1-2 months out of the year. Real location is why Chinese shows are dubbed most of the time -- noise pollution. And as for why historicals are shot in Hengdian instead of real locations, I really don't think the Chinese gov would allow for them to use ancient Chinese palaces for shooting, it would be a travesty to the artifacts and impossible again because of the sheer massive population of China. Wherever you go, there are like a million people, it's impossible to shoot under those circumstances. For outside historical shots though, unless it's fantasy or something, most of the time it is shot on location, in some rural part of China.

same is the case with me!!! i'm also trying to find the other with Master Yan!!! hhhh
The actress of Xuan Su is 斯琴高娃 (Siqin Gaowa). She doesn't have a surname because she is Mongolian and they do not use them. So her first name is her full name! I might be wrong, but I think her romanized (from Mongolian Cyrillic) name would be: Tsetsengua. In China she is called "Little" Siqin Gaowa because there is a very famous Mongolian-Chinese actress with her same exact name. If you google her name, it's most likely you will end up with those other actress's results instead haha

Also, her Chinese name is Nan Ji (南吉). Hope that helps!

I support Wang Ou too, she looks so good in NIF1. Which eps to skim?
Hmm, well, she is the main female lead & romantic interest of the male lead, so she is in every episode! She has a looooot of scenes, and the show is more focused on romance than the novel is (I didn't read it but I mean, wuxia novels are pretty typical).

i don't understand the random music tbh. why is there hip hop in a historical fantasy, idk it's just bizarre. and sometimes the music covers up the characters' dialogues....

Does anybody know if this is supposed to be xianxia or wuxia?
I don't think it's either, it's historical fiction erring on the side of politics.

honestly mo nan irks me more than zhou xin yan. this double standard in chinese dramas always annoys me. it's always the "crazy female psycho bitch" who is jealous of the FL and treats her like shit because she can't get the ML. the girls always get typecast into these roles while the guys get to give the mostly-female viewers SLS. i mean let's be real, Mo Nan's actions are way more disgusting. At least ZXY is outright with her actions, she's bitchy and she knows it (and Chen Mo knows it too, hell, even Bo Hai knows it). she doesn't like LLQ and she's honest about it. she also gets told off for her shitty behavior and she even admits it's shitty, she's just immature is all. Mo Nan on the other hand is such a liar; he's like the classic "good guy friend" character that always rubs me the wrong way bc it's such emotional manipulation. Just because he's an attractive dude and on-the-surface supportive of Bao Ni and LLQ though, it's like his actions are totally forgivable or something, i don't get it. He's hurt LLQ time and time again with his actions and he's technically hurting Bao Ni as well.
