I'm in love with this drama :D Xing Er is such a strong and cunning female lead who doesn't need help…
Yeah, I get the feeling that Yu Wen Yue is mentally calling himself stupid, for telling her to smile when facing a stronger enemy. Now she's pretending to be cheerful and stupid in front of him, when she's hiding something. When he was blind she didn't hide behind the fake smile as much.
Another couple of great episodes, glad we're moving away from the maid quibble stage now.
idk, I really don't remember him much from the novel. They gave him a bigger role for the beginning of the series, then he had in the book, I think he'll die sometime before Chu Qiao leaves with Yun Xun. The opening scenes show her killing 3rd Grandfather, and she does that in the book too before leaving the manor with Yun Xun, since she blames Yue Wen Huai for her sister and brother's death she might kill him before going as well.
But they might let him live to the middle of the series, I think he was causing problems during the rebellion for Yu Wen Yue, when Chu Qiao starts making a name for herself as a general. After that I don't remember if he appears again, it was a very long novel series that took me a year to finish and I ended up skimming large chucks of the fighting and scheming parts.

Doubt it I don't remember him much from the book, but in the series he seems to have a inferiority complex, I think he sees her as something he wants as it shows he as good as or better then Yuwen Yue, even if he concubine-born of a lesser family branch.
I wonder when they're gonna explain how her tattoo vanished
It could also have something to do with her not being able to use her inner power anymore. ep 10 (tv version) had something about it, during the lantern festival fight the guy ripped the back of her shirt to check for the tattoo because he thought he recognized her. I'm watching vietsubs of the TV version so I'm not sure I'm getting all the words right with them using ancient formal language so much.
I wonder if this is just a remake of Princess Huai Yu or if there's going to be a completely different plot…
So far watching it, I keep thinking this story is a female lead version of Duke of Mount Deer, with Princess Huai Yu relationships tossed in.
Including the parts about controlling spies with a poison that requires monthly doses to keep from dying and finding a hidden treasure that can be used to fund the Ming in restoring their empire.
