It's kind of obvious they're alluding to that head scholar man being Jang Hyun's father... but how would he just say that he was a commoner / slave worker? Did his father not claim him or something (bc his mom was a slave?) or did they get separated during war? It would make sense that Jang Hyun took after his father considering Jang Hyun is so intelligent, kind and wise but idk something isn't adding up. There’s definitely more to the story but I guess we'll see soon enough.
