We know that at the very least she admitted to her part in tampering with SY's physical examination, as we also see the doctor being hauled away. Whether she also admitted to setting him up for provocation in order to get him kicked out of the military, we can only speculate as I don't recall them going into specifics of what she confessed to. But I also watched without subs and haven't rewatched with subs yet. . :-)

Daddy Meng is easier to like more than Mama Meng because we can see he's a kinder person and seems to genuinely care about his children. BUT, in my opinion, that is where he is worse than Mama Meng because although he cares about his children and can see how they're suffering, he doesn't actually do anything about it. Instead, he either sides with his wife or doesn't do anything to stop her even though he actually knows she's out of control. And the reality is, Daddy Meng does that because turning a blind eye to her actions actually suits his purposes.

It can be argued that because Mama Meng lives in her delusional world, she is incapable of differentiating between right/wrong. But Daddy Meng certainly can and IMO that's the biggest problem. Rather than using his heart for good, he buries it out of self-interest and becomes Mama Meng's biggest enabler.

The signs have been there all along that Yezi was not quite kosher (admittedly, that might have been a little easier for those who've read the novel to pick up). But this is the direction the novel also took her in, so it's not the drama suddenly taking her character in a different direction. The drama, compared to the novel, actually lays more groundwork for Yezi and what she ultimately does. (In the novel, her ultimate action comes out of nowhere - mostly because the author just didn't include much of Yezi.)

You can find the unsubbed versions of 37-40 on various non-legal sites, but if you're looking for subbed episodes they're being released according to the original schedule, so you'll get the remaining four eps on Wednesday and Thursday. The drama finished airing on Saturday when MangoTV offered an 'express package' type deal to domestic users -- people had to pay extra for those episodes (and then they were ripped and have been made available to others online).

It’s actually worse in the book where the mom had SY framed as a traitor and then he nearly died in the interrogation process. 😢

The original author indicated what the spoilers were going to be about: episodes 33-40. If someone didn’t want to know about those episodes, they should know not to click open the spoiler cut. frankly, even without the heads up, anyone who clicks open any spoiler cut assumes their own risk. It’s not as if the original author left her comment open for all to see.

Haha. What's even cuter is when he goes to see her later and she ends up pushing him out the door because he still refuses to tell her about the past. The way he puts himself up against the door to ask, "But we still haven't broken up, right?" is hilarious/adorable.

And I agree, XQ's upset on this occasion is quite understandable/relatable. I hope people aren't upset with her over this!

The fight starts off about the job - SY made a decision about his next steps without discussing it with XQ. But ultimately the fight was about the fact that he doesn't discuss things with her, such as the things from his past. He thinks he's doing it to relieve pressure from her (and in the case of his past, protect her from the truth), but she feels alienated when he doesn't share his burdens with her.

As for what XQ's mom did to SY, first, she messed with his physical examination which prevented him from getting into the school he'd wanted after re-doing his senior year of high school. And then after he overcame that and was doing well in the military, she arranged for someone to purposely provoke SY into hitting him, and then had the altercation reported to the military, resulting in him being dismissed.

I'm just going by what the dictionary told me for that one because police/legal words like that are not part of my every day vocab (thank goodness ;-)), but the exact phrase that the policeman used when he explained why they were releasing mom from custody was: qubaohoushen, which according to my dictionary means: release from custody, subject to provision of a surety, pending investigation (PRC).

LOL, i know... I kind of head tilted when the policeman said that too because we never got any indication that she had some sort of chronic illness. She took pills, but so did XQ's dad, and at their age, it's pretty common for them to be taking daily pills but that doesn't necessarily equate to serious, chronic illness either. But maybe it's enough for her to be advanced in age and have, say, hypertension for her to be released - dunno.

His character didn’t exist in the book. In the book, a young firefighter from a different fire unit died during a rescue mission.

My understanding is although she was released, the investigation is still pending. That is to say she doesn’t have to remain in jail while the investigation goes on. And the only reason they allowed this was because she turned herself in and because she had a chronic illness.
