It’s a scene from the book, but I think the purpose of its inclusion there is a little bit different. But to explain we’d have to back up to their first meeting after the hospital incident. In the book, there’s a fire in the residential area next to her apartment building and FL is called because her car is also parked in the alley way — this is not shown in the drama, only the flashy sports car and annoying owner (that part exists in the book as well). Maybe because they didn’t want to portray the FL as someone who would also park her car in a way to block fire lanes, they removed that from the drama - I don’t know.

Anyway, in the book she’s actually trying to leave the hospital when she gets flooded. She had come out of a long surgery and was really tired so not paying attention to the weather. Her car goes dead in a puddle and then is immediately bumped from behind and then she’s locked into her car. Anyway, same thing happens in the book, he saves her and she asks if he knew it was her and he says he was just doing his job.

But! Towards the end of the book, it is revealed that during that time when they ran into each other during the fire in the residential area near her apartment - the time she had to move her car - he remembered her license plate. Which means he did know it was her when he went to rescue her!

My point is I think there is a purpose for that scene in the book, it’s maybe a little lost in the drama because they left out/changed that one thing.

After her parents died, FL was brought into her adoptive family's home. They were close but it wasn't until they were teenagers that her adoptive mom decided to push the formalization of the adoption - notably, it was ensure that nothing would ever happen between the two children. The brother does form feelings towards her, though, and hence the constant undercurrents that you are sensing from the brother to include the negativity radiating between the brother and the ML.

For a lot of reasons, including the belief that the ML lead the FL astray when they were kids, the brother doesn't like the ML -- but when the two men finally have it out, the ML points out that as much as the brother and his parents may be the FL's family, they don't really know anything about her or understand her. She's oppressed, traumatized, and depressed. That was one of the reasons she was so attached to the ML; with him, she felt freedom and the ability to be herself.

In the end of the book, with regards to the FL's brother, he gets accused of sexual assault by the girl from the bar/the ML's cousin's friend from college who is scamming her. The cousin ends up being the only one with evidence to clear the brother's name. Her instinct is to withhold it out of revenge for what the FL's family did to the ML/her cousin after ML and FL broke up way back when (what FL's mom did then was beyond the pale), but she is persuaded to hand over the evidence but not before she makes FL's parents - the mom - grovel for it. Ultimately, the FL’s brother goes abroad.

The character, Suo Jun, does exist in the book. But it's not a very fleshed out character so pretty much everything we're seeing of him in the drama has been added in.

You are correct. They start in 9th grade and in that sense, they are all new to that school. Besides, if anyone is to be considered a "transfer" student in this drama it would be ZRL as he transferred from a different city to attend this school before transferring back for their 3rd/final year of high school.

It’s probably based on misunderstanding when translating. In China, schooling consists of 6 years of elementary school, followed by 3 years of middle school and 3 years of high school - but the term for high school translates directly into “senior middle” school which I think leads some people to think middle school.

Re: the CCTV. My recollection from the last time the terrible coworker messed with XL's computer was that when XL exposed her, XL conceded there was no camera that would show her desk, but it would capture who had entered/exited the office and based on the timestamp she was able to figure out the terrible coworker was the only person in the office at the time her computer was touched. So, I think the logic holds up that the intern wouldn't have been seen at her computer. BUT I think the same sleuthing skills should apply here as well. The intern was clearly the only one in the office and so she should be able to figure out who messed with her report and sent it out. But that whole workplace is a joke. Based on what that other coworker did the last time, she should've been fired, but instead she was only temporarily suspended. Doesn't even sound like she suffered a demotion! It's ridiculous, frankly.

I think these latest episodes prove that Ping'an is actually the smartest character in the drama right now. ;P
