Wow…Interesting exploration of how mundane evil can be. I was shocked at how ML treated his daughter in the car. It made me wonder how bad he had been during the marriage for the daughter to dread being with him.
He was ultimately to blame and the film shows all the different ways he refuses to accept responsibility. The ex-wife was on point about his selfish ways but why did she call him in the first place?! Maybe it was to punish him as he suggested.
I definitely feel the ending suggested the boy did shove the daughter into the street…But he also said he didn’t feel he could bring her to ML and seemed to have his own issues from being abandoned by his own parents. Makes me wonder if he felt little girl getting hit by a car was a safer outcome than going home with ML and in that case, was it a good or evil choice?
Sweet set of stories about how precious time is and the importance of living your truth with no fear or regret. The stories really build up to show why Kevin feels so ambivalent in the first scenes and makes his performance at the end more cathartic and bittersweet.
The first story (described below) was weakest but seemed to show the manager’s past struggles leading her to Kevin.
The second story was a very sweet snapshot of a typical family finally going on the camping trip the dad always wanted.
The grandmother was so excellent, I cried. That last story had all the coziness and comfort being with grandma evokes, making the story even sadder but the end again brought a sense of closure and freedom for Kevin to live life for himself
Kind of a caper/con film with high school loan sharks (listed as Usury Academy on Tubi). I found it hard to believe kids would eagerly get a shady loan knowing their parents would be on the hook?
As presented there weren’t many creative ways for the plot to turn; it all made sense except for the girl with the boxcutter at the end (didn’t make sense give her part in the story which was small)
Odd mix of wacky sex comedy and very grim thwarted romance storylines featuring a decent western actor (I don’t think I ever saw him before but not being atrociously bad makes him a standout to me!). Sweet ending but not sure it overcomes the very dark scenes
Edited to add: Western actor was Danny Ahrens and was also in Road to Boston
Wow, it hit so many different feelings about being a woman and a prospective mother. Lots of wry humor to start but the feelings grew deeper, more complex and finally determined, following the FL’s journey through pregnancy and her feelings about it. The end was so perfect to me; the tears didn’t hit me until the credits started, as if I were feeling the same things she did in that last moment of the film! Maybe because I remember feeling the same way but in less dramatic circumstances. Well done!
I liked it! It wasn’t profound or complicated, a simple caper/con artist/buddy movie featuring an unexpected but delightful musical number!
It did seem odd that it didn’t really comment on the prevalence of plastic surgery as much as it celebrated it (or so it seemed to me). Great cast, roles seemed tailored for each lead
This is called “The Distributors” on Tubi. This felt like a long after school special about why recording and sharing videos is bad.
The reveal was really unrealistic to me and the end was so heavy handed (repeating the “If you do anything non-consensual with videos, you are a criminal!” point that was obvious throughout the movie)…So I think it was for kids despite the mild violence and sexual themes?
I definitely did not think I was the right audience (though I am not really sure who is. Maybe parents to teach them clues about spotting suspicious behavior?)
Think this film is better tolerated if you remember this is mostly a dream. Wonderland isn’t real, so no incest happened. The dream and growing intimacy between the leads were illustrations of FL slowly getting closer to the truth. I really disliked all the blood but I think that was also to illustrate the horror and why FL was resisting the memories.
But I really didn’t understand why she did it in the first place? I technically comprehend the reason the movie gave but it makes no sense. Is the message “If your parents ignore you and your nanny/maid starts doing it too, you will lose touch with reality and slice a baby?”
It doesn’t even make sense metaphorically (she didn’t seem jealous, she seemed to love him best). It was truly unhinged behavior that went unexplained yet was presented as the reality…It just didn’t work for me because of that
This seemed to be a portrait of one man’s grief, trauma and anxiety as a consequence and illustration of the damaging pre-democratic regime in South Korea. I wish the film had concretely explored the dancer’s life outside dance but appreciate the respect and discretion of the film
I’m not sure I want to watch this again but think maybe the whole movie was FL playing their possible relationship forward on the day they met (which would explain her reluctance to give ML her number)? Even if that were the case, FL was very annoying throughout (seeing the obvious signs that ML just wasn’t that into her and pressuring him to keep the relationship going)
Kind of Wizard of Oz but with sword fights and movie making theme (with video and YouTube references thrown in, maybe to suggest the “magic of movie making” is all around us?!). In retrospect the end didn’t really make sense but that’s fine for a quirky action movie
Highly unrealistic but nice way to explain to children the right way to care for a dog and good/bad reasons for adopting one or getting rid of one! Though didn’t love the ending (solution is keeping the dog outside for life?). And why did ML get scolded for keeping the old house secret when she kept her family’s dog allergy secret with zero repercussions? That lie by omission is the whole reason for ML’s exhausting journey
Simple familiar story of good neighborhood residents fighting redevelopment, except the leads know taekwondo! Lots of fight scenes. Earnest acting and cute friendship scenes as well). Weird soundtrack (music was often way too intense or very poppy and unsuited to the scene)
Great illustration of how one dirty selfish mind can ruin everything, even a pure love that was bringing such wholesome joy to both the poet and girl. The jerk ruining it all was a hypocrite to boot! With no imagination so he couldn’t appreciate what was happening. So he destroyed it with his envy and ill will. So gross, not sure I have ever been so disgusted by a fictional character before— But this really is a great movie. That moment where the poet showed off his henna was so good! Showing off this innocent gesture in an innocent and public gesture; just like how he described the story at the award ceremony, celebrating love, beauty, simplicity. And their hug! I cried.
A total contrast to gross guy’s twisted selfish actions and lies that tear things apart, instilling doubt and shame then leading to one destruction after another. The ending was bittersweet but really underscored how the nature of their love.
I liked it! The murders acted as the little flaws you hide from your new love, but amplified; felt like the parallels kept getting funnier as the movie went on, though maybe to the detriment of basics like “What exactly happened to start the murders” which was explained in a very brief conversation near the end. Maybe if I didn’t need subtitles to watch it, this would have made more sense but that brief conversation for me switched FL over from troubled woman acting in self defense to psychopath. But this also made how it ended funnier (his wistful viewing of discovered corpses on the news and that awkward ending!). Worth watching
This is such a sweet romantic movie, probably the first that has rewatch value for me. Cried at the end, so touching but it was also very funny! The ML is so goofy and good hearted, his kindnesses to FL are so spot on and thoughtful. FL has a sad past and it’s a relief to see her open up to ML. There was a strong romantic connection, maybe others thought it was buried under the money stuff? But the ending brought both together perfectly

Good, engrossing watch
