Romcom couples often suffer from a lack of depth and passion written in (the focus is on creating fun and cute scenes), melodrama couples suffer from a lack of cuteness (they're often too serious and emotional), and thriller couples often lack loyalty (one of them is usually cheating and the other gets revenge). SaJu couple won out by having the playfulness of romcom couples and depth of melo couples with passion and loyalty added in in a romance thriller drama. This is probably why the romance in this drama is loved by many, it's so well-balanced.
I'm glad they didn't cheapen the show to cater to hypebeasts and shameless corporations who will launch no doubt unofficial "squid game themed cookies/cheeseburgers don't miss out!". It still has that gritty K-thriller vibe.
They watched it already in a special digital screening by Netflix and have been answering questions and providing info for days. They're literally a godsend for those who like delving into the nitty gritty of a show. They do it for other shows too. So the review is legit.
40 mins to go! Just wanted to say I'm glad I have you guys. Non-K fans don't know the actors well and even though it's a Netflix show catered to international audiences, the franchise still has some K-drama and K-culture nuances. I'm glad we can delve deeper together or have fun knowing what's what and who's who.
Yeah they probably see it this way: a non romcom K-drama is a waste of time and resources that could've gone towards making a romcom they would enjoy. They rate it low just because it doesn't cater to them.
I love Kang Haneul's life choices. No social media nothing, he just pops up every few years in Kdramas with large casts (Misaeng, Moon Lovers, Heirs, Squid Game 2) then dips. I know he does a lot of movies but it's interesting he's so often part of dramas with insane casts.
Damn YYS can't do anything right. I'm not a huge fan or anything but some people are blowing things way out of proportion.
He played a trans character on broadway (Hedwig) and bigots were mad on Insta when Kdrama accounts posted those pics.
He said something a decade ago about wanting women to look sexy for him on dates to express interest and woke people are mad (despite him now playing a character written for the female gaze with two buttons undone, folded up sleeves, and not very opaque white shirts, collarbone and veins on full show). Funny how it wasn't brought up until he played this sexualised male role, it's a bit ironic IMO.
People want good looks AND good acting but have a problem with someone having a wide filmography being older (despite him having maintained his looks and looking younger than he is).
It's okay if you don't like him but you can't force others not to. Let people enjoy the drama they enjoy and stop holding guns to people's heads saying they are supporting misogyny etc by watching this drama (what a laughable thought)!
So SML and SFL won't end up together? They don't seem to have started any kind of relationship, it would be really…
They might start seeing each other near the very end. For now their purpose is just uncovering the mystery behind the missing twin and consequently the Baek family's secrets.
"You better win the whole prize and pay me back."
"If I win the whole prize that'd mean you'd be dead, how would I pay you back?"
"π€"
