I don't see this mentioned elsewhere but I am pretty sure this blink-and-you-have-missed-it scene from Linmon's latest promotional clip is in fact from Eagle Flag: https://kisskh.at/photos/X8Kop (With visual effects only partly completed but still look quite impressive)
So.. from orginally 56 eps to 70 eps? And this only cover for one volume of the book? Does that mean they're planning…
And when the Nirvana in Fire drama first came out, it was compared to Count of Monte Cristo in the West... They need a well established work as reference so that people unfamiliar with these foreign works can identified with them, I get it. However, Novoland is not just a work by a single person but also a shared world. Anyway, LOTR and Star Wars appeared to more influential to Novoland than Song of Ice and Fire. The author of Eagle Flag also quoted the shared world of Dragonlance (D&D) as an inspiration.
As for Legend of Condor Heroes (which is 1st in a trilogy of historical fantasy fiction), I think it is apples to oranges to compare it with LOTR. All the Legend of Condor Heroes (射雕英雄傳) dramas do have the same source story (but not to be confused by its sequel [2nd part of the trilogy] - also with many remakes). I think they are so popular because the story is very accessible (it is the first novel I taught myself to read in Chinese as a child).
Currently the 2017 version is the one best rated by members of kisskh. The 2008 version is fine and so is the 2003 version. I like almost all the versions I watched which are listed here but those dated earlier than 2003 look "cheaper" and might not aged so well.
The characters will be aged up slightly if necessary (common practice for period dramas, even GoT does it). Battles happened a lot in Eagle Flag, but not every battle in the book can be filmed ;) But we definitely will see a climax battle fought on scene ;P

Here's what I think, Season 1 would covered several volumes (if not all) of the (6) book series. Season 2 will be based partly on Novoland: Bai He Lu (Extended Tales) which is the yet to be finished written sequel with the same characters in Eagle Flag (EF). Some of the main characters of EF will have smaller roles in Bai He Lu while some characters get bigger roles.
The author Jiang Nan is involved in the drama creation process, so it might be like the US fantasy GoT where drama viewers would get to see the story before the book is out. Similarly, like the way it works for many US drama series, if Season 1 flops, there probably will not be a Season 2.
The issue with T&E is an over expansive screen adaptation and not telling people before hand is just 'Part 1' until after screening.
Anyone read the book? If so, can you explain Lu Giu Chen’s character? Does he have a childhood sweetheart? And…
Knowing all the specifics before watching is not that important - does one need to know the all the character profiles in Hamlet beforehand prior to reading it? When the Eagle Flag drama comes out and if you are still interested, watch it and if you have still have questions on the characters, I and other people here would happy to answer you. A little background on the books, the author (Jiang Nan) once wrote a story called 'Last of the Ji war gods' where Yu Ran is the lead with Ji Ye. The Eagle Flag is the coming of age series on these characters with Lv as the lead. After the 6 books are written, the author redacted 'Last of the Ju war gods' (essentially saying this story which taken place in much later years 'did not happened'). Also, Jiang Nan later had a falling out with the author of TaE: Storm of Prophecy (essentially making every references his former partner wrote in the shared universe taking place in later ages to be non-canonical when it comes to Jiang Nan's characters).
From what is canonical in timeline of the 6 books on Novoland Eagle Flag: 1. Lv Gui Chen has feelings for Yu Ran 2. Ji Ye loves Yu Ran 100% 3. Yu Ran is not '100% faithful' to Ji Ye It was mentioned at the end of the 6th book that Lv Giu Chen will be known as the Overlord of the North. Also, much of what Lullina wrote is correct.
I've never seen a C-drama before, but this one has really caught my attention. I don't know anything about how…
For this C-drama, there is a specific reason for the delay - it wants to premiere on Hunan TV's primetime broadcast slot for fantasy drama in 2018. This schedule is currently occupied and the next show assigned for April is https://kisskh.at/27385-the-king-of-blaze. Meaning FBS will not be broadcasted until May 2018 or later. BTW, may I ask what prompted you to choose this as your 1st C-drama, (just curious) is it due to exposure to the animation version of FBS or some other reasons?
They have not finished filming and the release date is still 2019. These materials are Easter eggs for fans, but they must allowed for at least 6 months of post-production work, or else the VFX in the final show could be cringeworthy =)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPNBRofB5g4 (1080p) Above is the prerelease version of title sequence at the start of every episode, without any cast credits. It is unclear at this stage whether the music will be changed in the final version (seems likely). (Edit: Replaced link above with the more accessible Youtube version).
Quick analysis: 1. Although the clip is 1:37 min (the same length as a TaE: Storm of Prophecy episode opening sequence), the audio part finished at 90 seconds with a transition change (see 3) - so the actual sequence should be 90 secs. 2. While puzzling to most viewers, the title sequence obviously is a easter egg to fans of the source novel - a reference to a chess play between two character in the book and also blood, ice and iron. 3. The end sequence is signaled by the appearance of the most famous motto in Novoland "Tiejia Yiran Zai" (The Ironclads still stands!) This is the first official use of the trademarked motto in a video by the drama. 4. The materials used for the pieces resembled Bloodstone and Qingtian Stone, two types of gem stones found in China.
The introductory by the drama creators on this title sequence is: 王道始于局戏,铁骑为子,天下为盘,非志者不可决 Which I translated into English as:
The way of the kings commences like opening play; With iron cavalries as pieces; and the world as its chessboard; Those of weak resolve are unworthy of this great game.
Since you are obviously a fan of Ashton then you should already know that he spent a lot his time training and…
There's a popular Wushu/martial arts novel set in the modern world which has been opted for a drama series. The English title is Dragon Disciples'. The protagonist Wang Chao is a martial artist who trains hard and honed his skills fighting opponents in tournaments, fight clubs and eventually against international killers and assassins. There hasn't been any casting call for this drama yet because the company owning the IP is currently preoccupied by some other major projects on my watch list. I think Ashton could be a suitable candidate as the lead in this series, especially if he garnered attention for his role in Martial Universe.
totally agree. With LHR's booming popularity as well as that amazing ensemble cast, it'd be hard for this drama…
I think is virtually guaranteed that show will be on Mango/Hunan TV since they have a minority stake on Linmon ;) Many of large battles in the novel would have to be scaled down if not discarded in the show and distilling the story to 56 episodes should not be too difficult (advantage being to provide a budget of around US $1.5 million per episode for the series).
I'm only watching this for Ashton/Shi Xiao Long. He is being under utilized in Mainland China. Wish he'll get…
Since you are obviously a fan of Ashton then you should already know that he spent a lot his time training and building up his stunt team (core members being his father's students). I do think that he can get back to main stream attention given the right roles. The man has passion, but I do not think he is as hungry for limelight as some of the more popular stars.
A 2 minutes location teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeIyz2VbjrM It shown (not in order of appearance) locations used for the 3 largest cities of Novoland: 1. Northern Capital (of the "Tribes") 2. City of Nan Huai 3. Tian Qi, the capital city of the Empire (slightly different from the version we see in TaE: Storm of Prophecy, set 600 years later).
On March 8th it was officially announced by the producers of The King's Avatar that due to a unfortunate scheduling conflict with Novoland: Eagle Flag that arised, Song Zu Er has decided to drop out of The King's Avatar. A search for her replacement now underway.
