May I ask this, do you think that someone is emotionally mature at just 14 years old? ofcourse the answer might differ from person to person due to their life experiences, but most of them become emotionally mature only after 18 or 20+. Someone at the age of 14 would never have even realised whether she was feeling happy truly or being manipulated into thinking she was "happy" but on the contrary, don't you think him being 21 or smth along the way, wouldn't have known the consequences?
