if it has flaws then how is it 10/10. 10/10 means perfect. im done with u people
pretty much every single drama ever released has flaws. many people rate objectively but many people also rate subjectively (i.e. how enjoyable they found the watch). for me, even if something has flaws, if i really enjoy it, i will rate it higher. not everyone is analysing every little aspect of a tv show and rating based on the artistic merit LOL.

often people rate things to personally keep track of their favourite dramas, not the ones that were objectively the best. the reviews are usually where that happens (and even then, not always). this is an informal site, after all :)

which one was AI? omg
oh wow! yeah, the vibe is SO incredibly different (but at the same time… they’re both cheeky characters, haha). i like him but first of all, i absolutely didn’t realise it was him in this and second, i didn’t realise it was AI either 🤭

Just because his opponents are stronger than him doesn't mean he should just give to them and blame it all on…
they were wrong even pertaining to america anyway. if you’re in a car crash you don’t necessarily call the police—but you definitely do if a driver involved is drunk!

uh, which “the states” are you from? because in the united states of america, you call the police if someone involved in a car accident is drunk. because it is illegal to drive while drunk. and also, he started damaging the car on purpose. and agreed to pay for the damages but then reneged.

love how your ending is just “it all went downhill from there” because you KNOW what he did wasn’t acceptable!

don't quite understand why this is rated 18+ bc nothing so far has warranted that rating. the judge from hell…
self-assisted dying/euthanasia in south korea is illegal AND controversial (largely catholic society), that is why.

Death with Dignity should be a legalized individual right. Compassion, that's the name
exactly. a hallmark of MOST healthcare systems is patient dignity—so you can’t be true to that while denying death with dignity for the very same patients.

romance not being at the forefront of the story doesn't mean there's no plot. the plot is all of these characters…
people have already responded to you with the aim; if you choose to only pay attention to looks instead, that is on you :)

half of the comments here are literally just -

“what’s the plot?”
[ten people accurately summarise the plot]
“there’s no plot!!!! what’s the plot??????”

lmfao ANYWAY i just watched the first episode and it was great! everything is cohesive; the plot (!!!), the acting, the soundtrack, the costumes, the cinematography. this show already has absolutely been successful in creating an atmosphere for the viewers so it feels very immersive. can’t wait to watch more and see the characters develop.

i’m especially interested in dr trin; his storyline heavily intersecting with the students is interesting and i love the parallel between him, as a student, not partaking in activism in france but having his “second chance” as a professor in thailand with the student protests. another point of interest is trin wanting to partake in activism/bring about a change but having unrealistic, idealistic actions to some degree because of his privileged upbringing — that is to say, there is a reason that in real life “activism” looks quite different depending on one’s social class and access to resources.

+ peter deriy (playing victor) is an actor to watch out for in future projects, i would say!

Uh… yep, what you’ve listed for those other dramas is about as much plot as we have so far for Shine too…? I’m not sure if maybe you have missed something but if you are not seeing the full picture, you can always search about Thai activism/the Thai political climate in ~1970 and maybe that will give you some more insight as to where this plot is leading. I’m genuinely curious if by the end you will still say there is little/no plot.

Someone told me that they finally changed it, but I didn't rewatched it yet so idk if it's true
“Communist” is a loan word in Thai so yeah, Trin definitely says “communist”

isn’t the plot usually something that unfolds as you continue to watch? if you knew the whole plot already, it would be unusual.

but also sometimes the central part of a “plot” is individual stories in a shared period. while i think that is the case here at the moment, it’s also clear that all of these stories intersect and the degree that they intersect will increase. we’re definitely seeing a lot of how these different character choose to enact activism and how the time period is shaping them/how they are shaping the time period.

having watched it now i can say for certain—that i absolutely HATE the vertical format. the thing is, i’ve “enjoyed” it in the past but i enjoyed it for what it was which was a low-budget production, usually with actors that weren’t very good. the kind of production that is a bit tacky and over the top but enjoyable because you’re expecting that.

this is a legitimate production and unfortunately it still has the same pitfalls except you’re still expecting better which makes it worse! the acting for these vertical short form episodes can’t be natural because you’re supposed to be entertained enough in 2m to want to click to the next episode. it means the pacing is bizarre, too. i like hakyeon and i was excited about this, i’m also usually pretty generous with shows and can find redeeming qualities fairly easily; this is an unfortunate disappointment.
