i find this such a difficult show to rate. tbh i usually dont like shows about political intrigue because after…
YES, I initially didnt like the show because fanxian was just TOO OP. i do think he is a fun character to watch though. did he go through tough times? yes he did but they were resolved so easily. of course he has wits (half comes from past knowledge while the other half comes from his witty and cunning personality), and he also has strength, but all these are meaningless against the strewn of powerful ministers and ROYALS. but somehow he just gets pass these things because of the invisible hands helping him. i had somewhat of an inkling that he was being played like a chess piece but i didnt expect it to be to THAT EXTENT. that's when i started to really like the show. fanxian was never weak and i never thought he was, on his own, THAT helpless (even without someone else helping him), but after that reveal i felt the helplessness that he felt. i think he's always been somewhat confident in his wits but turns out he's just been pulled around in all directions. for this reason im super excited for season 2 and i can't wait to see how he goes against chen ping ping, the emperor and the princes.
also i love that i watched this because it's a historical drama, but turns out ITS ALSO SCI FI!!!! WILD
i find this such a difficult show to rate. tbh i usually dont like shows about political intrigue because after watching ten thousand historical dramas, they all just feel like things happening cos the writer wanted them to. i did feel this way sometimes when i watched Joy of life, but for the most part i think the political scheming turned out to be quite intricate. to be frank i struggled to enjoy the earlier parts of the drama (minus kid fanxian), because there were just too many invisible hands. but i stuck through it despite the dread because i knew it was going to have grand reveals. and alas! i was right!! im not disappointed at all!! but was it worth the wait? idk, perhaps it was cos im gonna watch season 2.
one of the reasons i didnt really like the show was because of fanxian, who is seemingly SUPER overpowered but i changed my mind: check SPOILER
I like ur pov haha something new. But I think u r confused by the usual add on of book scenes for censoring purpose…
From what I know he just either time travels or transmigrate right? But does that affect the plot about his mother? Cos in the series it does stress on the ice age and old world intelligence that his mother had. One of the big plot twists is also the secret about the divine temple. Wouldn’t changing it to fan xian being a time traveller or transmigrator affect the plot twists? Or is this still in the special edition. Btw my earlier theory was before I watched the ending, which showed that it’s set in a novel (but I know this is to avoid censorship so I know to just IGNORE it haha) . When I made that theory it wasn’t because of censorship but I truly thought it was in a novel and that some characters gained sentience and awareness ( like W two worlds or extraordinary you). Of course after the reveal I know this isn’t the case
Absolute madness in ep 41 and 42… omg the twist!!!!! Ok it was kind of worth it sitting through some eps. Truly this is 4d chess. The invisible hands have showed themselves. Before this I was wondering if I would even watch season 2 but now I know I will for sure. im soso goad i stuck through with this
I’ve watched three eps, it’s a very pretty show, great cinematography and beautiful set designs. However with all the slow-mos it’s giving all style and no substance. The male lead is also really annoyingly overbearing. I know he has his reasons but I just don’t like this kind of stuff
I was gonna drop this show three quarters through ep 21, but I decided to finish the ep and now I’m kinda hooked. I love scenes with wuzhu why is he so funny
ep 21: omg is this actually set in a book?? thats why wuzhu keeps saying he cant remember and keeps glitching whenever he says something hes "not supposed to". if fan xian's mother is the guider and the betrayer, the bringer of all things, does that mean shes the author?? or perhaps someone who knew shes in a book. I’ve had a few suspicions that fan xian is not in an actual historical timeline, since like he said some words or sayings he knew shouldn’t exist yet are being said by certain people - this probably is a clue they are in a book since the writer could sometimes accidentally use sayings or words from a different historical timeframe. ALSO PLEASE DONT REPLY WITH SPOILERS EVEN IF THIS TURNS OUT TO BE TRUE.
Opinions after ep 19: idk how to feel about this drama, sometimes it’s really entertaining and sometimes it’s not. There are some really super funny moments and I enjoy those the most. Fan xian is a very fun character. But the thing I feel iffy about it the overall plot and scheming. There are some mysteries but the reveal for the major ones is very slow (like who’s the mastermind behind all the happenings, and who fan xian even is and why so many important people are protecting and harming him). There are loads of invisible hands in this drama and that’s what frustrates and makes me curious, but I know that getting to the reveal is going to be a tedious and maybe even boring journey
Finished this last night and I alr miss!! The best part of this was surprisingly addicting restrained forbidden romance!!! They barely touch but the chemistry was on point. The rest of the plot was just ok, nothing special or memorable but entertaining enough as a plot device for the romance, LOL.
this drama has the most useless immortals ever. like they dont even do anything???? they just sit around. even those who do do things, like fu rong who uses his cleansing powers, are not thst strong??? most of them just sit around waiting for the God to solve all their problems. at least those in the spiritual realm expend ALL their efforts to fend off evil. the immortals just talk trash about their almighty lord divine's illicit love affair while depending on him to save their ass. smh
ep 32 verdict: this is basically a combination of ten miles of peach blossoms and pillow book. its executed pretty well and the romance is so addicting for some reason. i dont care much for the power struggle LOL. its basically a better version of pillow book. i loveeee the restrained and forbidden romance trope so much. so much feels even though they barely have any physical contact
also i love that i watched this because it's a historical drama, but turns out ITS ALSO SCI FI!!!! WILD
