15 eps in and its still not sticking. i dont think the connection between the leads were built up THAT well for her to be doing so much now. the second couple is also really boring.
I’ve watched 9 eps and so far I’m not loving it. It’s pretty boring and nothing much seems to be happening. The FL is entertaining but also not at the same time??? At least the ML is not a boring broody guy like I thought he would be. He’s actually the funniest character with his hilarious reactions.
FINALLY finished this omg. the last few eps were such a chore. the main couple's romance was good for the first 20 eps. there's tension and expectations, BUT THEN IT JUST FELL FLAT. i think they dragged out the romance for far too long. it wouldve been great if this drama was just 24 eps and focused only on the the main couple, because everything else was SO SO BORING. i found the FL cute at first but after 30 eps she really started to annoy me. the second couple was so boring, i skipped all of their scenes because their relationship was just so dumb. the antagonist was just so dumb and too far deep in her insecurities to make for an interesting character. overall a let down in later eps, which is sad because the beginning was actually good. i usually dont even like modern cdramas but this was not bad for the first 20eps.
I used to have one sided beef with vin Zhang. Idk something about his face was always so menacing when I saw him in a few dramas years ago (where he played side characters). But he looks so soft and cute here. I totally bought his character
If the second couple has no haters then I am dead. The show could’ve saved me the trouble of fast forwarding and skipping all their scenes by just not including them in the first place. The drama would’ve been exactly the same. I honestly can’t stand their melancholic and angsty faces omg. Not only is their premise alr so boring, their relationship looks so dumb.
The antagonist or the girl who’s jealous of Meiren is also super random. Like why is she here and why is she even needed??? She’s like super dumb and too far deep into her inferiority complex to be given this much screen time. Why does she need a backstory and why should we care
the only good thing about this drama is the romance but the couple is spending too much time apart in the 20s episodes. like what an i supposed to watch then?? ive been skipping scenes of the second couple from ep 2
dropped this on ep19..doesnt feel like its going anywhere. very slow paced...the high ratings got to me again.
i felt this way until i watched ep 21!! in fact i dropped the show three quarters through ep 21. i somehow decided to finish the ep and from there i was so intrigued i finished season 2 in just a week.
is it worth watching like will some episode be dragging I want to watching it but at the same time something is…
Generally it has very good reviews so you can just try. I struggled a bit to get through some eps but there are some WILD WILD plot twists in this. The scheming is quite well done too. It’s the kind of show that gets better as you watch but right off the bat there are lots of mysteries, and you’ll have LOTS of questions in the beginning about why certain things are happening. These all get answered in some point of the show.
Tbh at some points I didn’t think I would finish the show but now I just completed both season 1 and 2 in just a week haha.
liked this more than season 1, probably cos I’ve grown quite attached to the characters and became quite fond…
At the end of this season I pretty much think fanxian will have to go against almost everyone loool. His enemies are for sure the second prince and the royal princess. At some point I think he’ll have deal with the shady crown prince, although I don’t think he’s much of an opponent. The emperor too definitely only sees him as a chess piece. He’s probably the final boss FX will have to go against. I can’t seem to gauge Chen ping ping’s agenda. He’s not completely on the emperor’s side for sure, and seems to move in a way to protect his own interests. CPP and emperor are allies for now but might not be in the future. I just can’t tell if Chen ping ping will support or go against FX. He’s so difficult to gauge. He might actually be one of my favourite just because of this. Idk what he’s thinking. please dont reply with novel spoilers, thanks. otherwise im happy to hear thoughts and theories.
liked this more than season 1, probably cos I’ve grown quite attached to the characters and became quite fond of fan xian as a character. He’s a lot more serious here and at times it feels like he’s bearing the weight of the world. The plot is pretty good overall, on par with s1, but with less mysteries and wild plot twists. I felt less frustrated in s2 cos there were less invisible hands pulling strings here hahaha. also less harem vibes in this season. in s1 i know hes loved only wan er but i still felt the eeky harem vibes from his interactions with female characters and how the other characters perceived his relationship with various women. AND FINALLY WE GOT TO SEE AN ACTUAL GRANDMASTER AFTER A GRAND TOTAL OF 82 eps. Omg. I thought we were never gonna see one and they were just mythical characters at some point since we only ever hear about them. S2 is an improvement from s1 in terms of aesthetics for sure.the directing, sets, costumes, hair were just way better in s2. There were times I was bored but honestly all I had to do was look at the fanxian’s luscious locks and I was entertained. I LOVED HIS HAIR SO MUCH, I WANNA HAVE A PERM LIKE HIS. Excited for s3 I hope it gets released soon, it’s probably gonna be the best season yet (if it’s actually the final season). I feel like s2 ended on a somewhat random note, like we’re still in the beginning of a new arch.
