I think SY saving her life (based from the clips) would be a 'poetic justice'.

Mother Meng seems to treat them the same way, from what i can see from the drama.

And i am not excusing his actions, but it is possible that's what he knows of loving someone. He seemed as closed off as XQ and his only friend is also terrified of Mother Meng. He didnt have any SY who can show him how to love someone unconditionally. But as you said there's room for character development. And i am hopeful when he tried to speak up for XQ though he also have his own reasons in doing so. It's a start.

PS. How about character dev for Mother Meng? Is there any chance of that happening? 😁

Hm.. What really bothers me about MYC is his fascination with the dead butterflies.
I mean, yeh they are pretty, but you dont have to decorate your entire wall in your house with it.

Separating your child from a possible bad influence, i do not disagree with this.
But then we were never shown any indication that FL's mom actually loved and cared for XQ.
Mom didnt see SY as a person, she only saw his troubled parents and that he's not rich or influential.
But the thing is XQ is already adult. She should be able make her own choices.
If mom really cares for XQ she wouldnt see the yrs she took care of XQ as something XQ owes her.

I usually take it with a grain of salt grain of salt, when it comes to dealing with or resolving menthal health issues in dramas. Though there are standard procedures, treatments should still be specific to that person.

Had that problem but just waites for a few more mins.
