i think his father may have spoiled him by not disciplining and guiding/teaching him. he loved his son so much he wouldnt accept criticism about him.

not following the book closely doesnt mean it doesnt respect the book.
these are 2 different forms of media, there would be differences in story telling. i havent read the book but from the spoilers from novel readers, they really havent changed much of the main story and even expanded on some parts.
