Ahhh I see. This makes sense as well. He is probably good for nothing guy at the start of the novel. Then his growth will be a lot slower in the novel unlike in the drama. But the motivation to continue reading to root for such a guy will be harder I guess. :P

lol I guess that is just a façade he is putting to fool everyone. Earlier in the drama, he seemed to be that type of just wanting to play around (that is my first impression of him) but it turned out as the story get revealed, he actually a person who care tooo much. All he wants is a happy life with his siblings but he ended up having to take this big responsibility of leading a country to bring his siblings together again.

But I laugh at all the motivations that you wrote though. He really seemed like a good for nothing guy. He released the water guy just for fun? Doesnt learn martial arts because its hard? This is so funny lol

100% agree with this comment. Every character was so interesting, except for Jiang Ni (maybe a casting decision?…
Even Zhang Ruoyan also said they are like 'bestfriend' lol. I was so surprised when he said that haha. I guess he also didnt feel the chemistry. He surprisingly has more chemistry with literally anyone else (male/female combined) other than Jiang Ni.

Then you haven't watched harem dramas where one male has over 15-20 girls surrounding him. I'm sure you've watched…
Avoiding Joy of Life is a big mistake since I personally feel its as good as Nirvana in Fire. I rated both 10/10 and its the only Cdramas that I give a perfect score. Joy of Life is lighter and funnier and while I love Mei Changsu so so much, Fan Xian will always be the most special character in dramaland for me since he is that iconic. After watching him, you will miss him whenever you watch anything else since he is so refreshing character wise. I thought the person who made the character is a genius since there are so many layers to him that he will keep surprising you again and again.

You are absolutely not the only one…The majority of the viewers has similar thoughts. Older brotherly/little…
lol I knew it will be harem in the novel. When watching the drama, I was like 'okay, this will be his 2nd wife, 3rd wife and etc lol.

It's sooo entertaining to hear the male lead refers to his father with his father's name "Xu Xiao" rather than…
The fact that the Dad loves it when Fengnian calls him with his real name is an added plus. Its like when Fengnian call him 'father' then he knew something is wrong lol

I started reading the novel and was really surprised by how different it is from the drama. Although they kinda…
What do you mean by motivations? For an example?

I think a lot of dramas watered down characters so that it will appeal more to the public. Audiences like to root for white characters instead of grey ones so scriptwriter always wrote to cater to this type of audiences.

I watched 'You Taught Me All the Important Things' decade ago and I still remember how frustrated I was lol. I just realized Haruma is only 21 at that time. Erika is young as well. But I love the airport scene when he is running toward her -- that some powerful scene. :P Or the cute ending scene where she see him off to work and he took her hand to keep walking with her (https://pics.livejournal.com/tsuyoi_hikari/pic/0004gw91). Somehow, those 2 scenes kinda make me forgotten how frustrated I was watching the drama. 8D

I dropped it at ep 3 too but once you made it to ep5, that's where everything makes sense.
What make sense? I totally forgotten all of it. His action made sense later? In which part?

i don't like how they made up so easily after what he did to her
Like she said 'women... are stupid' and it hits me like no other. ;_;

This explained why many cant go out from abusive or toxic relationship despite they are aware of it.

I watched this drama like 10 years ago so all I remember is how hateful is Takei Emi in this role. What did Hikari did that you consider as she did so much for him? How she try to make everything better?

This is so true. I grew up watching Jdramas and I grew up watching the actors in various stages of their career. Now you mentioned it, I just realize it happen more often in Jdramas. In Kdramas, I can only name a few actors with the likes of Yoo Seungho or Yeo Jingoo but Jdramas has tons of them.

Which young J-actors who get adult roles? Would love to check them out.

I don't like japanese drama bcz they tend to do over-acting a lot like in anime lol which make me uncomfortable
I think this is probably you watched their high school / romcom dramas where the over-the top acting is actually a thing (partly because the story is based on anime). I cant stand those either. But if you watch their serious dramas, they're really amazing. Some of the best acting I've seen is from Japanese actors.

Yes I agree! Those confidence, how can they get them? I was in awe lol. They act convincingly as adult men so when I checked their real age and I was like 'what?!!' haha

Yes I envy those actresses. Such baby face despite they are in the late 20's. I think only in China those works since we seen more dramas with much older actresses and young actors unlike in other countries. When Korea/Japan do this kind of pairing, it obvious its a noona romance since the actor actually look their age.

Zhaolin is like an annoying little brother off the screen lol. He is like 3 years old when the camera is not on roll and all those noona actresses seemed to had enough of him and his antics. X'D

I think for most Chinese young actors, they just happen to be young in real age but they played characters in dramas which is older than their real age. So in a way, its not exactly a noona romance as their characters is older than the female leads' characters in the drama. Like for Zhaolin's case, he always act as someone in his late 20's but in real life, he actually in his early 20's.

Actors' real age didnt bother me as well but sometimes, I'm just shocked when they are so young lol. At 20 y/o, im still at university studying but these young actors already highlighting million dollar productions. The pressure must be real.

Title Joy of Life
If you havent watch Nirvana in Fire. I would recommend that one. Joy of Life would always be recommended side…
I actually get what you mean and I kinda agree with it. But I probably see it from other POV so I actually enjoy her character. With the limited screen time that she got, we got to see how she is special in Fan Xian's eyes. She is like a buffer between Fan Xian and the turbulence world that he's facing outside. The world might be crazy outside, but when he's with her, he is in this safe little place and he like that.

The fact that she wanted revenge for his beloved 2nd brother, but dislike war when his death caused that said a lot about her personality. Or the fact when Fan Xian was at his lowest, and she pointed out that Tai Zing willingly chose to die for him because he considered him as his family. Or the fact, when Fan Xian punish her mother The Royal Princess, she didnt hate him for that but instead understood him. Other dramas will have her break-up with him due to 'family ties' but she has brain and can think what is right and wrong. And the whole conversation with her mother further highlighted how she is not clueless and gullible. Her mother keeps bullshitting her abandoned of Wan'er or how she is just trying to live her life in the Palace or how killing Fan Xian is for Wan'er's own good but Wan'er sees all through her lies that she just evil and selfish and didnt care about her at all. For once, a clever girl who actually has brain to think lol and I find it really refreshing -- thus me appreciating her character even more.

Aside from that, I love to see a balanced drama -- a drama which combine both happiness and rocky plots. 85% of the drama is heavy on political stuffs and evil schemes and assassinations' attempts. While the other 15% is for family ties, friendship and love for Fan Xian. People might live in turbulence and hard time during war for an example but it doesnt mean that it will be all dark with no silver lining. Wu Zhu, Wan'er, Ruo Ruo, Si Zhe, Wang Qi Nian and Fie Jie represent this happiness for Fan Xian so to eliminate the some characters or the females completely will no longer fit the title 'Joy of Life' like the drama suggested. But I agree with you on writing them better. :D

When I watched his dramas, I cant believe like he's just like 20 when he's acting in them? Like everyone is calling him 'Da Ge' in the drama when he's the youngest on the set lol. Or the fact that he's just 22 when he's acting in You're My Destiny. I was shocked to see how young he is. :P
