Thank you so much for this article! I love cold and aloof male leads in Cdramas but the funny, mischievous and warm ones are actually my favorites! I wish there are more Cdramas with male leads like Fan Xian since any dramas with this type of character will always be funny and interesting.

Agreed so much on the highly intelligent male leads though. I think I have never seen a costume Cdramas where the male leads are not highly intelligent or borderline genius. I have to admit its always been one of the main attraction on why I enjoyed this type of dramas so much. :D

You should add the male lead in My Heroic Husband in your list as well. He is funny and warm and overall a really interesting character. And of course Xing Zhaolin character in Marry Me. Its actually one of my top 3 fave characters of his. He is so excellent in playing mischievous type of roles which imo the closest to his real life personality.

If you can survive the terrible CGI in Ten Miles of Peach Blossom, you will survive this as well haha. X'D

My opinion they made a mistake with the first arch story. It made the drama looks terrible with the excessive CGI for the Demon Emperor

They said she is not a good actress? Seriously? I thought her acting when she's losing her mind is very believable. I had to rewind and rewatch that scene couple of times since it is that good. :D

I'm a fan of her nearly a decade and I can honestly said that The Princess' Man is her best role to date. Well, that is before Flowers of Evil comes out since man her acting in FoE is truly magnificent. I'm so surprised she didnt get nominated for Baeksang Best Actress Awards tbh.

Ohh thank you for this. I wonder why he had to go through never ending trials and judgements and cant seem to catch any break lol. So he had to go through all of that to be a deity as I expected.

I initially thought its like that as well in the earlier episodes but I kinda change my mind in the middle as they really use a looooot of extras and different sets for each arch stories. The CGIs are terrible at certain places but when it involves power, it looks legit like normal fantasy dramas. And not to mention the costumes! The extras that only appear 3/5 minutes per episode got 3 change of clothes each time. And the costume didnt look cheap either with embroidery and stuffs. Not to mention Hanyan's various hanfus are really pretty and interesting. Its definitely not low budget but more like middle budget imo.

Not possible as because they're brothers and Xuan Lu is a guy and Cdramas wouldnt allow that. Thats why this drama took 4 years to get the green light as Xuan Lu's character reincarnate as a girl instead of a guy.

But I would love to see them in a romance drama where both of them are playing love interest though. I really like her and Hanyan is literally the best character on the show so far. :D

I personally think the drama made a mistake with putting the Demon Emperor & Blood Demon in the earlier episodes as both of them look fake as hell. But the CGI is like the normal bad CGI in fantasy dramas esp when they're shooting in front of the green room. I find it as terrible as the CGI in Ten Miles of Peach Blossom tbh. But the terrible CGI is only like 2% in the whole drama so I can take it lol.

Ahh I see. I had problem with this type of FL as well. Usually, writers can write hateful character without the character having nasty or terrible characteristics. Its flaws in the writing when they glorified something but it didnt come across like that to the audiences. I had the same problem with the FL when I watch Standing in the Time some time ago.

Is the FL has a nasty character as no one can put up with her attitude?

I hate this drama since the bad guys arent punish but forgiven at the end. There is no where in hell I will accept that since she's a devil incarnate lol!

I agree on the choices of actors esp with the likes of Jang Hyuk. But Hwang Jungmin gonna cost a lot too considering many of his films is in the top 10 of highest grossing k-films of all time.

I'm late but I'm glad that I didnt missed this article. I'm obsessed with umbrella as well and glad to see someone is like me too lol! I always find umbrella as a nice prop in dramas and find all scenes are even more beautiful and have more impact when involving them. Not to mention that poster for movies and dramas are even more beautiful with them. :D

My fave umbrella scene so far is the confession scene in The Eternal Love 2. Yes, this magnificent object got dropped when the leads kissed but we will never forget the impact it gives to the whole scene. ;P

lol at High Society and Obsessed. X'D I knew the drama would be bad thats why I stay away from it. But 0 is literally the worst lol. I think my worst rating is 1/10 but that's Train to Venice (a movie and not a drama) -- I had a hell of fun times reading the reviews at IMDB since everyone seemed to agree with how trash is the movie.

I think the worst rating I have ever given a drama would be Because this is my first life (4/10). I have problem with the script glorifying abusive relationship. I hate toxic males/females in general but most of their behaviors are corrected by the end of the drama as part of character development but when its not, thats where I draw my line.

I'm surprised you didnt like The Master's Sun. I havent seen it yet but everyone seemed to love that drama. Can I know why?

I agree on the ratings for 1-4 for Douban users lol. It doesn't mean the drama is bad its just not worth your time despite how entertaining the dramas might be. I would only rate 1-4 for my dramas if the script is utterly flawed and horrible.

The Untamed is really popular there. If its not, then the 2 of its lead stars wont be the top of the industry now. But here in the article its about ratings thus for Douban users (known to be very picky and pompous), The Untamed script wasnt good enough to be in the top 10 but it doesnt mean that the drama is not good / popular.

Its the same with Ten Miles of Peach Blossom, it is the most viewed dramas in China (and also the most popular) but the comments on the drama was hilarious and kinda brutal despite the popularity that the drama enjoyed in both domestic and overseas market.

It seemed here that MDL users are harder to please by looking at the ratings given for the series above. For me, MDL ratings are highly influenced by the popularity of the series and the actors. Many times that I would rate something 4 to 5 due to the inconsistency and horrible scripts but here, the ratings were like 8.5 to 8.8 and it was such high ratings for such flawed dramas lol.

I'm interested to watch Ming Dynasty in 1566 though. To be rated 9.7 in Douban is a miracle so the drama must be hella good.
