Ahh I never consider The Princess Man as enemy turned to lover but you are so right! The drama is truly amazing…
The best part of the drama is actually the 2nd half of it. I rated the first half like 7/10 but the second half truly takes the cake for me. Its definitely 9.5/10 in my book
I second that, that scene is just soo heart-breaking and beautiful! and he says something there, like he understands,…
Yes yes the fact that she emphasis 'NO, you dont know..' is the one that makes the whole scene more heartbreaking.
I love the drama to pieces. The fact that they are always together, fighting the same thing is what makes it more special. Husband & wife supposed to be together and fight things together. Not leaving one another thinking it is the best for them (noble idiocy lol). I love dramas when they do this. It makes it more special to me. :D
No discussion of "enemies to lovers" is complete without mentioning the kdrama, "Secret". This is serious melodrama,…
I'm so happy to see how many people actually love Secret here. I always thought I'm the only one lol. It is without a doubt the best kdrama for year 2013. I was shocked to see the writer is a first time writer yet he could write such an amazing script that is so addicting and sad. I also enjoyed his other works such as Mask & Time. Though Time has such an amazing premise -- it never reached its full potential which disappoint me greatly.
Good article. It is my favorite trope as well. If I may give a suggestions of best hate to love romances :-Secret…
Ahh I never consider The Princess Man as enemy turned to lover but you are so right! The drama is truly amazing though. I could write essays to describe how awesome is the plot and how justified is the ending. The best romance sageuk in my book. I was obsessed with the drama when it was aired back then.
For me the best enemy turned to lover drama would be Kleun Cheewit. Hands down the drama would always be a winner in my book since the hate was real and justified -- the FL accidentally kill the ML's fiancee.
And Mark & Yaya's chemistry is the best I have ever seen from any dramas. When they're both on screen, you couldn't look anywhere else since they're just so dazzling together. I find it amazing how magnificent is their chemistry despite they spent most of the time hating each other guts in the drama. And Jee is a perfect example of a FL who is strong, independent and badass. She handles everything with grace that you just cant help but amazed with her strength and will-power.
Oh yes, honestly the last episodes of Because This Is My First Life left such a bad taste in my mouth... I don't…
Me too. I fear for the male lead -- thinking how unfortunate and miserable his life would have become having to spent with someone as manipulative and selfish as her. :(
Wow that’s interesting, I think maybe because the drama gave a historical background of Different countries…
Thats the thing. The drama could cover a lot of things but try to look back at the story and list down the plot one by one -- it is unfortunately without substance. The episodes are freaking long but didnt really tell anything. Because I'm used to historical dramas with layered scripts which tell many different plots at the same time, I find Mr Sunshine truly lacks in the writing department. But the cinematography is really beautiful though and the performance is indeed excellent from all the actors.
I loved that quote, it was so sad when she heard him say that he didn’t love her.
IKR? He said it with a straight face and without any hesitation at all. If I was her, I dont know if I'm able to go back home that night lol. To know all your life with him is a lie.. It hurts like no other
The biggest reveal of the drama is the fact that we all being led to believe that Hyun Soo is a psychopath but turned out he is not. His father knew he is not but his father kind of brought him up with that belief that he cant feel love. The power of brainwash? I dont know how to label it.
Secret hit all the right notes. I need another love hate drama that good.
Kluen Cheewit.
I loved Secret (in my book the best Kdrama from 2013) but Kluen Cheewit takes the cake when it comes to love to hate relationship. The lead couples had amazing amazing chemistry. The best chemistry I have ever seen from any drama.
''The only reason he lived and survived another fortnight was so he could spend time with the object of his affection before he perished.''
Sorry I had so many issues with the drama so despite having watching it, my criticisms outweigh whatever good things the drama has to offer. I unfortunately find the drama a beautiful painting without substance. :(
So who is the object of his affection that he refers to here? Aeshin or Hina? Because I remember he loves Aeshin till the end but he never got any sweet moment with her lol.
Flowers of Evil is truly a masterpiece. I actually took a long break from Kdramas and that drama took me back in. I find the drama very interesting how Hyun Soo was brought out to think he was unable to love or feel love which lead to a big reveal later in the drama. So many plot twists and as someone who always sense plot twists miles before it happens, I'm glad this drama managed to surprise me many times.
For me the quote in the drama that hits me hard when Ji Won told Hyun Soo; 'Even for 1 day, I hope you will be able to be me and know how I feel about you.' She says this because she knew he cant feel love so she wanted him to be her and understand and feel this big love she has towards him. Man, that scene really had me like no other.
This is the problem that I usually have with some Kdramas tbh. That female leads with selfish, arrogant, and rude attitude are considered strong and badass by the viewers. This seriously undermine the real strong and independent female leads with actual good attitude and grace. Because seriously, imagine if you change those selfish, arrogant, and rude female leads' gender, then you will get an entitled and jerk male leads that we all hate lol.
I always have problem when Kdramas romanticize something. Forced kisses are not romantic, overly touching someone else is not romantic and saying somehow ~love~ can cure mental disorder is not romantic and realistic as well.
One of the biggest irks I have when they romanticize emotional torture -- the one that we got from Because This Is My First Life. The FL made the ML falls hard for her, stripped of his real identity before meeting her to the point that he couldn't live in the same house anymore just to test his love. Then fly back to his life like nothing happen expecting him to accept her again. And all you get from the viewers is that 90% of them are praising the drama for the its ~poignant and beautiful script~ when I find it pretentious most of the times esp esp when the script didnt walk the talk -- thus it becomes fake and pretentious.
That has to be what they are doing, because it doesn't make any sense otherwise.
I really liked the Chinese version since they made the male lead the kindest out of the whole versions. He never hesitate and always chose her since the beginning.
But the most disappointing part of the C-version is the ending where everything was solved in the last 10 minutes of the drama. Like seriously, it is the lengthiest version and yet, the most rushed ending. I couldn't believe anyone can green light that last episode lol. 3 years of sadness and suffering -- getting solved in the last 10 minutes of the drama -- like all the emotional turmoil the characters feel with the audiences amounted to nothing. I hate this kind terrible scriptwriting lol
But its still worth to watch though. The leads are really cute and they are a much better version than the Taiwanese one imo. They corrected everything that I felt was wrong the the T-version. Plus, a looot of sad and emotional scenes which I really appreciate to show how big is their regrets -- ''The path that they walked together is too short yet it left them with regret that is so big and unforgettable.''
I haven't watched any of the other versions, so no point of comparison. For some reason, I kept watching this even…
The acting was over the top since its an idol Japanese dramas. But I'm actually quite impressed with the crying scenes of the lead guy -- it actually really good.
I have watched and like the Taiwanese and Korean versions. I have also watched the Chinese version and though…
But the C-version sex happened because both of them are completely drunk & wasted -- what different would it make than being drugged? Usually, when people wake up from 1 night stand, they know it is a mistake but they didnt get shock when they see their partner face as the sex was consented despite them being drunk. The Chinese version took the route that they were completely wasted, that they didnt even remember what happened that night -- so when they wake up and find themselves naked and sleeping beside each other, it shocked them so much. And the lead girl cried a lot since she really cant believe she gave him her first time that way -- to a stranger and someone she didnt love.
Think the worst open ending and it probably couldn't match up the ending that we got for this drama lol.
She left after the miscarriage with the 2nd male lead while she never know the truth that he didnt send her the abortion form (2nd female lead who did that evil deed). The form that he wanted her to sign is Inheritance Form that said all his wealth will go to her after his death (he did this to show how much he loves her). And yet, despite not knowing the truth, she still smile happily to him before she leaves like saying it was ok for him to ask her to abort the baby.
There you go. The worst ending that could possibly happen, right? :P
