Viewers who interpret Hong Ye as being a martyr/simp during the 20 year future arc are watching a different show than me. To me, HY does love her ofc.... but he is also very calculating and wins thru strategy more often than strength. He takes very calculated risks, based on projections of how he expects the other party to respond. The man is all about game theory. When he seems weak or appears self-sacrificing, oftentimes this is to further a goal. The man is brutal with himself. And he isn't going thru all that JUST for romance. He sees that the world went to sh*t starting with her kidnapping and CANNOT afford to let that celestial demon get what he wants.
This is one of those dramas that I didn't care enough about to even update my watching progress lmao. But now looking back, after watching some of Love in Pavillion, I do think Red Moon Pact suffered by airing first. I feel like if we had already watched Love in Pavillion and so had a familiarity with ML's mom (the cheerful, mischievous sister) then we might have felt an extra affection and empathy for her kid. and thus be more invested in his journey. 🤔

I really kept being worried the drama would screw it up (either make people more knowledgeable about the topic than realistic for the day, or destroying the character). But actually I was very satisfied, throughout. Good handling of the topic. Strong acting. Does she have minor brain damage due to oxoygen deprivation or is she on the spectrum? No one in that time period has any way of measuring this or understanding. They just know she's different. It's handled with sensitivity and respect.
I'm currently watching part 2 and it seems Wangquan HongYe is a good person so why is he cruel to his son FuQui?…
Actually I feel like we do see in Love in Pavillion how he's a grey character. He does have some idealism and his grand plan is intended to help the world. HOWEVER, he already is making compromises and using people as pawns (though with positive intent). I think we can see how over the decades he could start compromising more and more For The Greater Good and end up colder. Many politicians start out with good motives but where they end up..... So ultimately I don't think there's a problem in the set up of Part 3, this drama.
Recently non-modern cdramas had SAD ENDING ... so I am doubtful to start this one. Any ideas about the ending…
This one is part of a larger series so everyone knows it's a SE. But Moonlight Mystique, Love of Divine Tree, and Blossoming Love this year were all xanxia that have HE for the main couple. So I think tbh it's just about picking carefully.

I really like that idea - that this was the choice he was making with his own agency, after a lifetime of others controlling his body. Super sad idea but thematically!!! It totally works 👌
She really had started seeing the ML differently and connected with him emotionally during these tragic events. She didn't blame him at all for how things turned out- when she had believed that ML had no ulterior motives. When she trusted that he would get justice for what occurred.
BECAUSE she had flipped in her sentiments towards him, she takes it hard to overhear that ML had a plan and the wedding was bait for him to clean up his adversary. Yes it wasn't his only motive and yes he didn't mean for good people to die, he's not evil. But he did choose to risk her friend and her beloved (a very good person) and made a bet on the Yang family falling into line. His bet lost. And now she heard him scold the Yang family and yet give no punishment, no justice.
I am more practical and cynical but the FL is not me. I totally understand why she, in line with her character, doesn't want anything to do with him. It's not that he failed to protect those 2 good people (initially she came back to THANK HIM, even after their deaths - trying his best for pure reasons and failing was totally ok with her!) It's that he included them as pawns in his greater plan and is prioritizing his larger objectives. And he kept her in the dark, while she had felt they were partners in this endeavor. Again, it's not that ML is evil and hateful. But she's not interested in grand plans and the bigger picture right now. It's all feeling very personal for her.

Mid ep 5 and I totally get why FL is attracted to Mask Guy instead of his every day persona. Her only skills are martial arts and she's been living in seclusion. Her first or second choice in a romantic partner is never going to be a politician. Especially not the leader of an alliance with corrupt members, who is planning slow change behind the scenes.🫠
Because the plots of the different Fox Spirit Matchmakers are chained together, the basic fate of the main couple can't be considered a spoiler imo. That would be like watching S2 of a show and considering the plot of S1 to be spoilers for S2 😆
Bad ending for the leads. FL dies after she gives birth to her son.
They can't/won't change the charcters' fate because this actually happens BEFORE Red Moon Pact that aired last year... their fate was already exposed if you watched the first Fox Spirit Matchmaker that aired. This is basically a prequel.
The gay best friend and the nephew delivering good performances, good comedic timing really helps sell the drama. It's not just sexy with great romantic tension between the couple, but I'm enjoying the while cast. I'm having such a fun time watching it, clapping my hands and laughing. 99% of republican dramas (short or long) are tense and angsty but 11 episodes in, this one seens to have a warm heart - it doesn't take itself too seriously.
So ultimately I don't think there's a problem in the set up of Part 3, this drama.
