I think it's both, the whole novel material is already there. And the script is also more detailed. It's the Director who decides what gets in the final cut.

As much as I applaud the Director, I don't think he excels in weaving complicated plots and events.
The Lin'An town arc, with its small town charm and characters was perfect. But everything after the war seems disjointed to me.

31-32 i don't like that they changed the plot/ or the order of events.
Atp, XZ shld have broken up with her after finding out about her Father as in the novel.
In the series, CY suddenly becomes distant. It seems unbelievable that XZ would just accept that, specially with all the rumors about her and Li.
If they followed the novel, it would have perfectly explained their acceptance of their time apart.

For me it's the way she got distant to YZ. They were just cozy in ep30 (even after she knew about her Dad). And then 31 she suddenly calls him My Lord.
They should have atleast showed some scenes on how she came to that mental state.

I think it was mentioned that it's not for the lack of trying on her Mother's part. She was just not academically gifted and lazy to study.
Her parents tried to prepare her, her Dad trained her martial arts. Her Mom with education and home things, but she simply don't like academics.
Probably also the reason why they push her to marry SongYan, so atleast someone beside her is literate.

I feel like the Director is dying to just get over the war scenes so he can go back filming aesthetic, close up shots with sparkly and bokeh effect scenes 😆😆

Chapter/setting shift is obviously not his forte. I do prefer that we didn't spend much time going thru in detail on some events, but it does feel quite jarring the transitions on these last two episodes.

One thing I noticed about the toxic couple is that although Qianqian mentally hates him, she doesn't physically recoil from him. Minus the constant deaththreats 👀, they look so comfortable around each other. Almost like a long married couple. If only QiMin is less crazy, they totally fit each other. 😩

I've recently been watching the old episodes with all the shaky cameras while they run 😆 Nowadays we have all these very light and small gimbal cameras but unfortunately they rarely do running challenges now.
