Yes I heard the remake is not as good which is really too bad. I really wanted to watch it.
They gave him two useless (not very good/a bit traitor) friends, only killed his parents (no neglect from them), totally changed his encounter with Xia Mo to something cliche (she saved him when he was drowning, they were 16, no meeting on the road, no shooting with the arrow, etc)

Well, they made it very colorful, added unnecessary side characters/stories, softened Ou Chen... I also think the editing, setting and music wasn’t great It’s too bad because the actors are great and they could have done something amazing with such talented actors
I LOVED Summer’s Desire (it made me learn Chinese ; it’s too bad the Chinese remake wasn’t up to the level of the Taiwanese series’, they had such talented actors, they could have done much better)
1998 ver. is so much better, no r*pe scene (I was surprised considering it was older) and apparently the original…
Who knows, maybe excessive abuse between the leads was at trend at that time. But I also think the 1998 version was much better (the best adaptation of the novel, in my opinion), you can see Harit’s hesitations when he falls in love with the one he thinks to be responsible of his brother’s death and their acting is perfect ! Actually, the relationship between Soraya and Harit in the original is very beautiful, she slows heals him but she also develops a real bond and attachment towards him, their falling in love was very logical, unlike this version where it’s only abuse, abuse, abuse and oh! I love you (ridiculous)
You can watch it to kill time or for the actors who are still great but don’t expect something extraordinary
