I swear the moment he barged in, I was low-key fuming. Yeah I guess it's her destiny after all and that's where he comes in. It's likely that he'd be the one busting/helping her again with her powers. When Baijue reassured that he'd come to her after his tribulation, I do think he implicitly meant to fully assist her cultivation (aside staying by her side and possibly wander around the realms with her). I know it's all in my head hahah but the timing is just right then (Baijue freed from tribulation, Shanggu being more than ready?) and that's the only explanation as to why didn't he give his all with her cultivation prior. He must've known her weak spiritual vein issue but he seemed to be purposely waiting. Though there's a tiny possiblity he truly didn't know how to solve it lol. On the flip side, had she secured the sword, it would've drawn much attention and bring unnecessary troubles to Qingchi Palace. Shanggu's unexpected transmigration already drew Wu Huan's attention so yeah any more to it, would corner her to premature danger. In other sense, Qingmu did inadvertently help her lmao.
So he went from being chased to being the pursuer, from having a divine beast as attendant to keeping a spirited paper as little friend, was called ice cube and now he's a donkey, and despite being an adept warrior...he's now under the tutelage of FL. Man is also seen snooping around FL. How the table has turned.
If I remember correctly, he was present during Muguang and Wu Huan's marriage so he must've been an immortal long…
They refer him as Lord Donghua and I don't think they've disclosed his first name...yet? But if we were to base from Peach Blossom and ELOD, white haired deity from heavenly realm is Donghua Dijun. Dijun, an emperor. I'm not a Chinese myths maven or if it has any relation to it at all and this is a mere guessing so take this with a grain of salt XD.

We probably have similar preferences 😂 I watched it earlier today and couldn't stop giggling lol. The character reversal makes their interaction a lot more dimensional and livelier. Although I don't mind old and stoic Baijue/Baoxun and genuinely think he's a man full of stories but Qingmu is straight-up likeable hahah. And the moment Houchi called him pervert, I was laughing out loud. Poor Baijue, had he known this, he'd get so offended. I'm also glad the pacing is well-adjusted. Didn't expect she would reunite with her frisky sword this soon but that was nice, albeit briefly. (And I almost cursed Qingmu for saving her because excuse me! It's her sword time! I was squealing because how could a sword be thaaatt cute and it was a satisfying scene up till Qingmu the party-pooper came smh)

IKR. I thought maybe I've seen plenty Xianxia and have reached to a point of getting accustomed to Xianxia directing but no, it is what it is – bland. Which disappointed me a little since I've seen XK's capabilities and ZDY legit made me ugly cried in Better Days. Nonetheless, I remain invested with the story so I'm not going anywhere lol.
I’m glad to know I’m not alone. I prepared myself to cry before watching the ep, but then when the scene came…
MTE. We had been waiting for the particular scene and considering how monumental it was, it was natural to anticipate a grandiose moment or to be overflowed with emotions? I was like mmmm okay so that's it? Anyhow, I settled with maybe they were in pinch, had a limited budget for CGI or had to rush shooting whatsoever. We weren't halfway there yet too so perhaps they saved up spectacular scene for later episodes 🤷🏻♀️
Am I the only one who thinks the drama got boring/went downhill after they reincarnated? My opinion only. No hate…
Everyone is entitled to voice their opinions. Some people might take this as hatred but believe me, there are more diplomatic users here. Please don't be afraid to share your thoughts :) I'm actually liking the progress so far and absolutely on board with character reversal between Houchi and Qingmu. I liked the addition of Fengran too.
So far the story is very good. I'm still annoyed about Wuhuan who killed Yuemi but she instead slandered Tianqi.…
If I remember correctly, he was present during Muguang and Wu Huan's marriage so he must've been an immortal long enough. Could be one of Heavenly deities and that explains his familiarity with both Bai Jue and Shanggu.

I don't wholly blame ZDY neither XK; I'm well aware it's the directing and both Shanggu and Bai Jue are losing their spiritual powers hence the intentional weary look. But their expressions were somewhat amiss? Something missing there. I'm not familiar with ZDY works and have only seen her in Better Days and thought she was splendid there. But her acting here in ALP so far wasn't convincing? I'm not referring to the sacrifice scene alone. Yeah Yue Mi's scene was slightly weirdly cut off but there was no lingering moment afterwards so imo it fared better? I'm not here to nitpick her acting, I was just saying what's been bothering me. The end. I'm actually rooting for her and like I said, she seemed to have gotten hang of her role so I'm very much looking forward to her Houchi's portrayal.
Snow Goddess has to be the most short-lived villain of the year! Can't believe she redeemed herself that soon! Such a rarity in Xianxia. On the side note, Shanggu's sacrificing scene with Bai Jue was rather lackluster. I was anticipating a grand, showstopping kind of moment and...it was..meh? Their expressions were meh as well. But the good news is it seems like ZDY has finally acclimated to her role — her rendition of Houchi made me believe we can expect acting of her calibre. Imho her previous scenes were awkward and it felt like she wanted to shrink and fade away from camera sometimes. Ah I hope it's what I think.
Their scenes in 13-14 are probably the best in the series so far. It hurts, but I rewatched them a couple of times…
MTE! She seemed to have wanted position to mask her low birthright and to be equally respected. Yeah, it was clear she didn't trust Snow Goddess and hoped to firmly believe Shanggu. I'd like to believe while she does exploit Shanggu's position, she didn't seem to do it with devoid of conscience. Hadn't she eavesdropped Shanggu and Yuemi's conversation, Snow Goddess' plan to instill ill-feelings in her would've backfired. It's her insecurity that leads to being this ambitious and eventual disgrace. I didn't hate her (yet). Her instability is slowly showing so when she spirals down later on, I guess I'll start hating her then. Yeah I'd like her to continue being morally grey character. But on the other hand, I think it's completely plausible she'd turn into greed monster. Have you seen Ashes of Love? Runyu is the closest ambiguous character I've seen so far in Xianxia land. He's technically a villain but in the sense of anti-antagonist if that makes sense? His backstory is also the saddest I've seen from second male lead and my heart was aching for him to the point I cared none for main pairing 😭😣
Apparently my guts weren't toying with me when I thought this drama is good, basing only initial first impression. I mean they even had Hoshino Gen to sing OST! Ah I'm both sad and glad it's ending this week. Truly a delightful show and I loved how they didn't shy to explore and lay out delicate matters till the end, even if it exposes vulnerability. Afterall, we do get lost sometimes whilst navigating and need a helping hand though oftentimes left unsaid. I'd never forget the moment whenever Mameshiba gets teary in time of gratitude, powerlessness and consolation :')

Yeah, by default their memories will be totally wiped out and wouldn't remember a single thing unless there's a triggering incident (we all know there'll be). Ohh I didn't notice that! It's also possible that he has another as disguise; not necessarily means he'd have three lifetimes (although it's not impossible in Xianxia). Ofc this is a mere guesswork 😂 I'm open to any possibilities lol. Xueyi is high on the list so I'm hoping he'd comeback soon. I just hope they wouldn't go far with sowing discord between him and Bai Jue (even if it wasn't in Bai Jue's intention, getting stabbed by a friend must've hurt him alot). Luckily, it's Xianxia and there's reincarnation so I think we'll be spared of this misery for a while lol. I dislike Wu Huan to the core but honestly, all she aspires is great ambition and perhaps she wishes no harm to Shanggu? At least directly? I could see Shanggu bestowing leniency toward her even after the exposé 🤔 So far, she seems mild and for the lack of better word, she utilizes these gods/opportunities as her stepping stones in rather understandable manner? I kinda wish she stays that way cuz that would be a lot more interesting to see how everything pans out. Afterall, we've seen many and typical embodiment of villains in Xianxia and Luo Yunxi's Runyu as the ambiguous villain in Ashes of Love was delightful to watch.
Lmao Mone indirectly spitting out facts had me cackling. Sensei wears sour face and on his books all the time, it's only natural to think he's depressed. She's so blunt too, especially in time of excitement. When she had the lightbulb moment and unintentionally likened 'dried up' to 'aging' when conversing with Sayaka-san — that was gold. She didn't mean it and it was just a happenstance but girl is rather blunt at times. Last week theme is my favourite so far. Sensei's approach toward learning, his struggle teaching Mone (logical vs kinesthetic learner) and finally the warmth behind his usual stoic expressions! I'm glad he's there assisting Mone so our girl can speed up her pace. And him asking Mone to stop questioning and simply digest first, is mood. I'm a bit of Sensei and Mone when learning, so I know firsthand getting deep into whys would've made things more complicated than it originally was and could've obstructed initial learning process. Hope Mone remain steadfast with her learning process!

IKR! Yuemi and Tianqi are the highlights from last two episodes and they own the limelight, rightfully so. You're brave to rewatch them! Sadly, I don't think I ever will. It was such a rollercoaster ride. I truly didn't foresee a double kill. But I know sparing or jailing Tianqi would be a killjoy for plotline sake. So I was like this is gooooodddd but ain't it painful! Thankfully, they had Bai Jue checking his natal chart. Otherwise, I'd effing riotttt!!! Tianqi doesn't deserve to be accused of Yuemi's death and for a start, not from Wu Huan's evil tongue! Ah. It's understandable. Frankly, Yuemi's character is somewhat too good to be on Xianxia land. She's levelheaded, selfless and affectionate to boot and I'm guessing there's not much to do with her character in long run (though I really hope she does return). They're probably using her death as the basis of Shanggu and Tianqi's eventual maturity. Hmm. Idk it could go sideways as well seeing she died in Tianqi's place and it happened right in front of him. If Tianqi regains his memory pre-reincarnation and Shanggu learns of Wu Huan's devious tricks later on — ah the ugly parts :(((
Why did they do this to best girl Yuemi :((( I've been rooting for her since day 1 and wanted her to at least have a long lifespan if they're gonna deprive her of love. And Tianqi? How dare they went for double strike? My poor heart was heavy throughout the episode and I was down shedding tears for my favourite pair! It's 14th episode for God sake. I know Xianxia progresses swiftly but a double kill? Good characters on top of it?! It's safe to bet Tianqi will certainly reborn but anyone who've read the novel, do you perhaps know if Yuemi will get reincarnated? Will she meet Tianqi again? Setting this aside, whoever casted these two truly has a discernible eye for talents. Their expressions and mannerisms are on-point so far. Never awkward, never out of place and not overdramatized. Xueyi especially, fits Tianqi like a glove! I can't get enough of this man!
EP8 was a true racer. I nearly had heart palpitations towards the end and I truly did lurch out from my chair lol. Two more episodes to go and I hope Mameshiba knows she's got another option a.k.a one without both Fujibal and Orca.
and yeah the foreign concessions factor phroggies mentioned is also pretty important. because there were all of…
Interesting! I remember Mr. Gu saying CMQ's power is limited and it sort of weirded me out because I had the impression of him being a Section Chief equals to bigshot. Without context, I think I'd be confused throughout the show lol.
This is such a complicated and rich period that I’d be afraid of doing it justice, but I’ll attempt a really…
Thank you! This clears up confusion I've been having! I've only seen 2-3 Republican dramas prior but they all had nothing to do with actual historic events. Naturally, as a blank canvas myself, I had a bit of trouble digesting and patching up information. So this is a great help and definitely piqued my interest! I actually thought its been CCP from get-go and certainly had never heard of Kuomintang beforehand. This could be my introduction to history of China and your helicopter view eases tremendously!
Gal, I'm rooting for your career progression!
