I was also wondering why Xiao Zhan didn't take the opportunity to come back as Yan Bingyun and my first thought was that maybe he wasn't as famous and busy back then when season 1 was filmed (his career got a really big boost from the role of Wei Wuxian in The Untamed which aired the same year as Joy of Life S1).

So maybe he just doesn't have time anymore to take the supporting/guest roles (he's been acting as the ML in all of his recent dramas, as I checked).

But that's only my guess, maybe some fans of Xiao Zhan who are following his career in detail would answer differently.

I've just finished it, that was my first time watch. Luckily it's been a national holiday period in my country so I literally devoured all of 46 episodes in 3 and a half days. One of the best dramas I've ever watched.

Oh wow, that's what you call a masterpiece.

So happy I started watching this drama for the first time right before season 2 airs. I can't imagine what kind of torture those 4 years have been for all of you who were watching when it came out in 2019. If all the rumors are right, we will watch it this month. Can't wait!

Finished episode 14 and so far it’s been the best contemporary drama of the year for me. I hope they will also wrap it up well.

✅Acting (both FL and ML are doing great job)
✅Chemistry (explanation not needed)
✅Interesting characters (including Grandpa and her friend, Madame Wu, FL’s siblings and the goose)
✅Beautifully written (scene when Maidong is explaining the circle of life was one of the most imprinted and worth remembering scenes I’ve seen in a while)
✅Pacing (I am eating up every second of it without the moment of boredom)
✅OST (can’t wait for it to be released on Spotify/Apple Music, especially song „Oasis” by Wang Heye)

Yes! I love this pairing, too. Their chemistry is top notch, not overplayed, shown by subtle acting.

They have a really good chemistry. Them just being close or looking at each other speaks more than words. Good casting choice, I would say!

I am trying to understand the airing schedule too, it doesn't make any sense.

They broke up because of the fear what emperor could do if they continue to be together. But later on they understood that there is no difference, the life threatening situations will occurr anyway so splitting up wasn’t worth it. Even FL spoke about it when they got together again.

I think HZ is kind of person who’s not showing her emotions so easily and the way she’s going through this break up is pretty consistent with the character. She went full workaholic mode to make herself distracted.

He’s got that sociopath vibe

I loved first 3 episodes, I have a good feeling about this drama, can’t wait for the story to unfold
