I loved the part where He Yan told off Chu Zhao. I really hate when there is only one special woman who is different…
yes I love that she wasn't with the "I'm not like the other girls" bs. she showed interest in needlework and cooking too (for Xiao jue's benefit ofc), things considered 'women's affairs'. it's just that she was never raised to learn them. that was some good writing
1. First 4 episodes are so goooooood 😍😍😍. This is going to be my favorite drama this year everything…
on point number 4, I hope these are not the same people who call The Untamed a masterpiece (and it is) but it delivered despite having a lower budget than this
there's a very simple c drama explanation for why Xiao Jue cannot recognise her previous identity. in episode one Xiao Jue said they had not seen each other in years, and "he" had already become so ruthless. as per the drama, he never saw her without the mask in their youth and I'm assuming it was in their teenage years. voices change with age, they were in separate armies for years, he rufei could have grown taller in the time since. he protested against giving her qinglang. he suspects her role in his father's death and her failure to arrive on time, meaning he holds deep hatred for he rufei. the one suspicious thing that arose was the horse taming, but that is not enough evidence to conclude she is he rufei. lastly, this is a c drama, I believe we've watched enough gender swaps to know that they will rarely satisfy this aspect lol
Glad you are able to enjoy it as a standalone, but some other non-readers felt it was rushed. Did you feel that?…
as a non-reader I feel like putting all the backstory would have dragged it. for the backstory/flashbacks, I actually think it's sufficient that the episodes open with a scene from the academy which gets called back later in the episode. I'll just get the full picture from the novel after
I usually forgive c dramas for illogical things like surviving fatal injuries and the brother suddenly appearing out of nowhere. I think what is important to me is that she rises in ranks quickly to get back what she lost. I've been watching cultivation donghuas lately and I guess I'm tired of slogging through 20 episodes of an MC starting from 0 and spending all that time as an innocent character who trains, rises, gets betrayed and then starts again.
I'm also glad they removed her previous marriage because I can't deal with family drama on top of military politics. we've already seen the betrayed long suffering wife who comes back for revenge in The Double and Blossom. I want to see something new other than women fighting in the inner courtyard. I'd rather watch military brotherhood than that.
I love it so far! I'm glad I didn't read the novel so I can appreciate this for what it is. because I haven't read that, it feels most comparable to Mulan, especially the first four episodes (solo training sequence, rendezvous at the pool, the way he discovers her secret). every time they are together on screen is so thrilling! I wasn't expecting this much tension so early. They've also eliminated the element of him questioning his sexuality. that would have been fun to watch haha.
The second lead is also interesting, I love a scheming second lead scholar! the FL's brother is scummy but I'm having a hard time hating him because of the actor's roles in TBOY and Dashing Youth TT
Is this good? Havent watched or read any adaptation. But idc if its adapted or not. How is the pilot episode?…
I think its good so far. it's faithful to the donghua as far as I can see. you need to be a bit patient with it because yes it is ML based so we spend a lot of time with his narration while he wanders about. there is little romance though ML has chemistry with all the women he meets in the donghua.
The drama feels like it was filmed in 2011. Not in a bad way, it has very cosy colour grading and gorgeous cinematography
this! it feels like an old wuxia. and they are using older lighting techniques, not like 'realistic' lighting that is popular these days. I wonder if it was shot on film?
I watched the donghua a few years ago and the drama is reminding me of some things I forgot. watching episode one and I feel like zhang tie was the only person han li was ever sincere with. that's his work husband fr. hu yu xuan and yang yang are doing a great job of showing their bond.
