I was going to pass on this and now I'm hooked! some aspects are not to my liking (the cgi and editing) but I like this salted fish character haha

he rufei feels like the shadow of his sister. he hates that everything he has now is because of her achievements. that's why he wants to crush her and everything related to her

it isn't really cleared (no evidence yet) but now he knows the past he rufei and the current one is different in ep 24

for fighting scenes I would recommend My Journey to You, also with Cheng Lei. Mysterious Lotus Casebook, A Journey to Love and A Dream within a Dream are also good options.

sorry but his character doesn't add anything but jokes about the leads' relationship. tbf if it wasn't for him xiao jue would be stagnant and not to anything to pursue his girl. but I could do without his storyline with song taotao. maybe they needed a way to make sure Zhang miaoyi was not cut out too. if the part when they met their old school friend was cut then it wouldn't have led to xiao jue realising the truth. I remember when the OG actor first started talking badly about the drama it seems like he had conflicts with chu zhao's actor. I suspect they had scenes interacting which were cut. he might have had a bigger role in the politics than he has now, cause all he's doing is hanging around and making comments here and there. a shame cause I loved him in ADWAD!

I thought it was acted well tbh. she was a former general who understands why he was being punished and how punishments and rewards from the emperor work (and so does xiao jue). "speaking up for him" (which she has no power to) would be a rookie move, especially when she just got rewarded a title. his nephew and the other recruits have never experienced that kind of thing so they were shocked. even xiao jue himself took the punishment calmly. whining about the situation wouldn't change anything. it's not like she could take it for him. the only way to look at it was to view the situation with distate because of the politics involved. and, they are still in a deadlock because the he rufei situation is not entirely clear. the most she could do is check on him in secret.

he yan's cheer is gone now that shit is getting real. and it looks like xiao jue misses it. judging by episode 28's preview, he's become the tease while she is the serious one

this comment is funny to me because early reviewers of the drama hated that she was a funny and cheerful character

yes I love that she wasn't with the "I'm not like the other girls" bs. she showed interest in needlework and cooking too (for Xiao jue's benefit ofc), things considered 'women's affairs'. it's just that she was never raised to learn them. that was some good writing
