I'm late to respond, but if you find the romance annoying, you can easily skip. It focuses on the romance for only a few eps for comedy (i found it pretty funny), but it returns to political manuvering pretty fast.
I totally agree with you that people shouldn't rate dramas before they're even released... but why post this on this forum? The rating for Immortality on MDL is still N/A.

I genuinely believe the father-son is a rumor. The team had released a message saying "What should be there will be there, what shouldn't be there won't be there." Father-son is just waaay too ridiculous to change to. Also I'm pretty sure Immortality passed censorship looong ago, but I'm not updated on Weibo or anything so I'm not sure. :'D
Totally agree that Chinese censorship just ruins freedom of expression though, yep shame the chinese authorities.
Personally, I don't think any of the rumors are true. I mean you won't believeee the amount of people waiting for HYX.... I'm sure a lot are getting paranoid about it.

Tbh I actually founud a-Xiang really annoying in the first few episodes. She's sort of the embodiment of hated cliche female characters in cdramaland: high pitched voices, overbearing, etcetc But she grew on me so much as I watched more episodes. Her demeanor doesn't exactly change, but I started to sort of understand her. :)

The thing is, this drama will DEFINITELY be more hype in the beginning. I mean, this drama is just SO anticipated that every page related to Immortality will be talking about it. If the hype continues tho.... that really just depends on how good our scriptwriter is :)))
So apparently, future cdramas should be 40 eps or less. This makes me wonder if that's why SPL is now 40 eps+…
......W h y? Long dramas are very much enjoyable sometimes, and HERE, 50 episodes is pretty needed! The only reason the cdramas are long and boring IS CUZ THEY HAVE CRAPPY SCRIPTWRITERSSSS
