Update: I read the novel to understand the details of the drama but to my surprise, the novel is about their teenage years. So 80% of this drama aren't based on the novel at all. No wonder it's so bad lol.
The plot is interesting and would be soooo good if it's done right. But idk what's wrong with it, it's just meh. The story flow is choppy, I can't understand some of the characters actions. The girl swore she hates the guy, and suddenly likes him, and dislike him again, and suddenly in bed together. All of that with no solid reasoning behind it. The second couple is like that too. 6.5/10.
I watched the first 3 episodes and was confused why the rating is so low. I thought they were cute, and the set…
I've finished it with lots of skipping, and 2x speed. I'm certain this story was written in 2010s. So many bad tropes that shouldn't exist in a 2024 drama. And it's a shame because the main couple is so cute together. I love their chemistry especially towards the end. I wish to see them together again in a much better written drama.
I watched the first 3 episodes and was confused why the rating is so low. I thought they were cute, and the set up had big potential. Then I watched further and I get it. The side story was unnecessary, the FL job stories, I'm still confused what's going on with ML, so many side characters who seem to have their own stories idc about.
I once said I hate when the main characters were just side characters to the main plot and this drama signifies that.
There are a lot going on in this drama, they have issues at home and in palace, but in all of that storylines, the main characters were only involve to investigate or revenge after everything's done.
This probably isn't an issue if you love political drama, but as someone who watch for the main couple, it's pretty disappointing.
There was a brief plot when they focused on FL wealth, a burglar gang attacked their house, ML as the imperial guard have to sneak away from the emperor to save his family, the burglary planned by their own family members, add the whole shebang about ML's brother as well - THATS MY DREAM MAIN PLOT. This is when main characters were main character-ing. But alas it only happened so briefly then we back to military and palace and family feud.
Can anyone let me know in what episode will the main couple start have frequent interactions, and when will they start dating? I'm currently in ep 4 and they only been in the same scene once..
This is one of those drama you power through when you have nothing else to watch. You can tell the writer had big ambition for this but it couldn't be executed well due to budget and china censorship.
I don't understand the negativity of some commenters here. I think the show is not bad at all.
I love how there's only 1 episode of the main couple in the future and hating each other. By 2nd episode they've returned to the past and have a harmonic relationship til the end.
I also love how the plot heavily included the main couple. One of my pet peeves in historical/royal drama is when the main couple are just side characters to the political plot. But in this drama, the main couple controls the directive of the plot. They're the main conspirer. Almost every scenario happened because of the main couple actions.
But alas, in typical cdrama fashion, it went on too long. Especially the last 5 episodes, the writers ran out of idea, gave each character a long ass monologue to drag the time, and changed the characters trait. But despite all that, the ending for each character is soo satisfying.
That last episode ruined this drama for me :( in like the first 8 episodes I genuinely thought this was one of the best kdrama in recent times. Ep 9-11 was not bad too. But wtffff is that last episode. It's so random, out of character, out of place, gahhhh I'm annoyed
Can anyone let me know if ji sang woo and nam you ri plot will intercept with the main couple plot? I'm currently in the middle of ep 4. And honestly only interested with the main couple story. So far the second couple seems to have their own storyline? Can I skip their scenes? Or do their story also matter to understand future scenes? I'm trying to finish this drama quickly lol
