Though it feels so absurd to have Love like the Galaxy in the very first place, I have to applaud the authors…
Hahaha.. I have yet to watch LLTG, but i actually planned to watch it if it ever makes its way to Netflix or YouTube. The story sounds interesting and Zhao Lusi and Leo Wu are good actors.
AOS is one of the most overhyped drama. There are other Kdramas which deserve to be on this list rather than AOS,…
I would give AOS credit for its plot, acting and costume, but a BOTB Kdrama for me is Kingdom - it opened my eyes to the new world of K-thrillers, from the cheesy rom-coms that Kdramas started with. Reset is good, but it is a watch and move on drama for me, while The Untamed resonated with and touched me so immensely.
Love the article and analysis...I'm very shocked that there aren't more modern K-dramas that are everyone's "classic…
Thank you! Perhaps you can start watching some of those dramas that top this list to find out for yourself if those are really deserving of BOTB! Of the "classic faves" you have listed, i have only watched Secretary Kim - it's a watch and forget drama for me. A classic rom-com for me is Kdrama Full House, and while i rewatched it this year for old time sake, it is just an okay drama for me.
Recency Bias, it's a phenomenon where you will remember something you experienced recently as better/worse than…
Tbh, i honestly think the results would be the same even if the BOTB is defined in the voting list.. Will see if the list has a complete changeover next year and if this recency bias persists.
arrrghh.. this similarity with Doulou Continent waned off soon as the drama progressed to focus only on the protagonist’s…
I've outgrown the fanfare age. Story-wise, i agree SSS is best among these three dramas, but i wont say Douluo is the worst of the three! We can discuss more over messages so as not to hijack the space here for Fights Break Sphere!
I wish this site wasn't so biased against J dramas. Oh well..
Certainly don't mind exchanging views!
For me, Taiwanese dramas tend to be very long - few hundred episodes. Maybe cos those are the Taiwanese dramas i was aware of. So the only Taiwanese drama on BOTB at 13-episodes surprised me and i was hoping to watch it, but alas couldn't find it on Netflix.
Like you, i am looking out for dramas beyond K- and C-dramas, thus i made it a point to highlight those non-K and non-C dramas that made the list. Unfortunately, voting list depends a lot on the viewing experience of the voters.
I wish this site wasn't so biased against J dramas. Oh well..
For me, it is a case of accessibility - There ain't many Jdramas on Netflix, nor could i find Jdramas (subbed) on YouTube, which is such a pity as i do believe there are some really good Jdramas around.
Thank you so much for this voting project! I didn't know, so I'll follow up for the next time. I've also pondered…
Glad this voting project is useful for you as well! I read an article recently commenting the increasing popularity of mini web-series, to cater to the lifestyles of viewers who watch short streams in between breaks of busy schedules. Will see if this trend catches on for MDL viewers. Would you mind sharing which are your "keepers"? Of the Kdramas i have watched, while i enjoyed while watching some of them, i do not have one that stays in me yet.
I used to be the same but nowadays I watch more C-drama's than Korean in both categories Modern C drama's are…
For shorter Chinese language dramas, can give Singaporean Chinese dramas a try? They are usually 20 episodes of 45 minutes per episode. Hong Kong dramas in the earlier years are also worth watching imho!
i have not watched many modern Cdramas, maybe cos i'm not a fan of romance dramas. I tried Oath of Love for Xiao Zhan, but dropped it after midway as the pace, meaningless misunderstandings and squabbles were too much to bear for me.
I wish this site wasn't so biased against J dramas. Oh well..
I don't think this site is biased against Jdramas, but rather Jdramas are far less accessible for global viewers than Kdramas and Cdramas. Not just distribution but also availability of English subtitles.
I didn't see where to vote on this, otherwise Word of Honor would have had three votes or "Dear Missy" would have…
For me the BOTB drama is one that resonated with and touched me immensely. It changes as my life experience change and thoughts mature over time, but only once in a while. When i started watching dramas, i dont have a BOTB. But In my last one decade of Asian dramas, i would say i have 2 change in BOTB drama!
Wanted to also filter the overall results by genres, but i feel there is no objective genre categorisation to base on. For example, i won't classify AoS as romance, though of course there are romance elements. Thus, only did the top genres for the BOTB list.

More for your PTW list and I'm also glad you have ventured into the world of Chinese dramas!
