You're right. It is forbidden love. but I think there is a nice twist at the end that tripped me up, but it should still be forbidden love. In fact, it's this forbidden love that holds the whole story together and finds true resolution and meaning at the end. It was never about the battle with Changxi Palace, that was just part of the story not the main story, and it ended rather quickly, and added more problems to their relationship, but their love that is so hard to be together that part of the story will remain to the end. This story format is so different from other stories which usually builds a momentum and reaches a climax, but this one is more like part 1, part 2, part 3, and so on, like a journey and then the resolution finally reveals itself slowly, but yes, their love story which has them torn apart is the one narrative that remains.

To me, Xu Kai can show how a character feels without changing his facial expression. Even when his face stays calm, I can still sense the emotion through the way he moves, looks, or carries himself. He doesn’t need big reactions to make you feel something—his acting is quiet but powerful, in my opinion.
