Although Xu Kai screen time again is limited, but Xu Kai's acting is superb end of Ep 31, the closer the camera gets to his face, the emotions explode. Camera can never get too close to his face even without makeup. He's resorted to desperate means which shows up in his expressions, but yet still maintains same calm demeanor. Normally Mei Zhuyu has less expressions but at this point, he's desperate.
I don’t buy into the negative takes on his acting. I see the nuance in his gaze—there’s depth there. This role demands subtlety to portray someone so composed, and he delivers it with precision.
That scene she asked for divorce, Mei Zhuyu maintained his composure as he alwasy does under any circumstances, that's just how he is all the time. It's not easy to play composed and emotions that are inside but not revealed on the outside. It's not a character the actor can jazz it up a bit, Mei Zhuyu is an extreme case of composure.
When Mei Zhuyu threw himself at Wu Zhen and kissed her, that was a rare moment for him to lose his composure, yet he regained it back so quickly.
I think this kind of role, such an extremely composed man, is most effective if the actor can use his own voice for emotions. I really believe Xu Kai could have deliver it better than the voice actor in the emotional delivery (but maybe not the polished Mandarin they want that voice actor has), and really make the character come more alive. I find the voice actors delivery are too perfect, they sound like narrating, not truly deliver emotions, and I think Xu Kai has that ability. I"m basing my opinion on his modern role deliveries, his interviews, that China cultural variety show on stage he used Mandarin, his singing, etc.
The thing I noticed about his acting is that every role, I can feel the character, especially after watching the series, I feel like I know that character. If the character doesn't make it to my top it's only because I like characters with more personality and this one is too extreme.
Exactly, this is such a good drama and it doesn't deserve this much hate.
there's hate on comments section of a xu kai drama? so what's new? the comments section of all his dramas is like no other, not even close it takes on a whole different level you could practically write a thesis on it there's so material that it would take year to finish it
Actually, the story is not really about avenging his parents. It's something he wanted to do but it's not even really a plot in the story. However, they added a twist to the story that binds the conflict to his revenge, making it one and the same.
